How much is the 'look' of an oven important.

Due to get kitchen re-done next week.

The oven we ordered isn't available now so they have said we could have a different one instead and I went into store to see the different one.

The one we had - Baumatic OSF604Q had 2 years labour and 5 years parts.

The one offered - Hotpoint KSO53CXS has 1 years labour and 5 years parts.

As I didn't like it, they increased it to 2 years labour and finally 5 years labour and 5 years parts.

I only have 5 mins to spare so brought the details away to look up at lunch and decide.

Those of you with new kitchens (and older too), how much does the 'look' of your oven influence your kitchen, would you go with one you weren't 100% happy with - the functions are fine, I just don't like the mirror shine/stainless grey look.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

It would be a factor but less of one than functionality and price.

But the labour and parts warranty wouldn't sway me at all - completely irrelevant. You're protected for up to six years under the SOGA if something goes wrong (not down to wear and tear or misuse) so a warranty is pointless, IMO.

I would not care about the look as such, just energy efficiency, how well it operates (consumer tests etc) and whether it seems a quality build. But to me, quality usually looks better.

I would go for functionality over looks, but I wouldn't go for something I hated. It also depends on the kitchen. If you were paying a fortune to have a new fitted kitchen it would look off if you bought an oven that just didn't look right.

Personally if I were spending a lot of money on having a kitchen redo (or even on a budget) I'd want one I was happy with. Main priority would be the function but a very close second would be the overall look.
Anyway it's kind of irrelevant what I think? What do you think? Could you live with it or would you always have regrets? Is money tight or is getting the right kitchen more important to you? How long do you expect the kitchen to last? Is it a it needs doing now and it is a sort of stop gap measure until you can save up for a proper one or is this it?

  • Id rather buy the cheapest top end oven than the dearest low to mid range oven. I want quality that's going to last me. The look would play a part but not a big one.

how long do they expect the right oven to be out of stock?...if so is that an acceptable timeframe to work on other methods of cooking?

can it be sourced from somewhere else as a seperate order?

I'm one of those people that once I make my mind up on something theres not much movement....so IF I liked one oven over another I'd try as much as possible to get that one before accepting a substitute

Just to add as well...from my point of view if I started off disliking something stainless steel which was difficult to keep looking good because of a mirror finish that I didnt much like nor particularly wanted...i'd be cussing it everytime I cleaned it!!!

I'm with the posters who say if it's a new kitchen who want the look to be right, not something you dislike.

New kitchens are expensive. I had one earlier this year and I couldn't have the sink in the exact place I wanted it. I either had to have it the opposite way round (basin and drainer) or it would be offset to middle of kitchen window. I couldn't even think straight, as having a new kitchen can be stressful whilst you manage without one and had to get my Mum round. She pointed out to me that I would learn to live with a draining board the opposite way but the sink looking 'wrong' for years would annoy me far more. Not quite the same thing I know but you don't want to view your new kitchen thinking all the time that an oven you dislike spoils it's look.

I have an oven that looks good but is a wretch. Bought on a budget in a hurry. One of the silliest buys I have every made.

I would not rush a purchase lie that again. I'd go for the best performing oven I could find. Of the retailer i was using couldn't provided the one i wanted and somewhere else could I'd go elsewhere.

Living with a cooker that doesn't perform as well as I expect it to is extremely frustrating.

We have just had our kitchen done and have TBH the oven was the one item we did not want to compromise on.

I wanted both, energy, easy of use, and look.

We managed to save on some items so we could spend on others.

I think that the look will depend where the oven is and if it is hob and then oven?

I am glad we did for us the oven is the main focal feature and we do not change our kitchens very often in fact this one was 10 years old.

For me i would rather spend a little more ( if needs be ) ( or wait a little longer ) get the one that i really like than for the next 10 years regret it all for the sake of saving a £100?

Try Stoves or Range Master. We got ours from the net. Knew which one we wanted and then found an offer.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

Bought a stainless steel oven and gas hob in our previous house. Was very glad to leave them behind when we moved. The steel seemed to have a brushed 'grain' to it and was a nightmare to keep clean and it scratched really easily. Never again.
