How much is the 'look' of an oven important.

I wouldn't insist on being 100% happy with it, but I'd have to like the look of it. Not as important as functionality but it still matters (to me).

The main thing for me is how easy is it to clean? My current AEG one is an absolute dream, there's no element in the main oven, and the element in the top oven folds down, can't recommend it highly enough after my last oven. Added bonus, as it's built in with the grill at eye level, I don't have to spend an hour on my knees, either :)
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

an oven needs to fit in with the look of the kitchen - so its important - but having experience of a lovely looking oven which suits my kitchen - but has so many foibles - I would gladly swap it for anything which actually cooks at the temp its supposed to and doesn't suddenly burn things! I swear the bluddy thing has gremlins! it behaved perfectly when company reps came out in response to my complaint............but I can cook a lasagne and one day it will undercook it - the next it will burn it! I am constantly hovering over it! I HATE it!

i'm going back after work now to discuss my options. I have no problems with waiting for my oven to come in stock, therefore putting the kitchen back a few weeks. However as it's a big job, walls being re-done, cement floor laid etc I'm guessing the company doesn't want to have to contact all it's different contractors and re-schedule.

I'll see what else they can offer. I did say ont he phone what price can I go to (so i could look online and find one I liked) but 'it doesn't work that way....'. The one they've offered is £300 more than the one we picked, but that doesn't really matter if I don't like it.

Hopefully, I'll find something in store later.

Can you find the one you originally wanted online and get it delivered yourself? (It'll probably be cheaper that way too!) That's what I did with my sink, taps and cooker.

Hell would freeze over before I took delivery of a 'that'll do' oven. :D

A new kitchen needs to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. Imo.

Dig your heels in until you find something you like and want. Do your homework, find something the same spec as your original choice and that looks good then tell them you want this one. They will source it cheaper than you I suspect.

If not then wait for your original choice.

Yes, but they will most likely then put their mark up on it!

Yes but they'll do that with everything anyway. The one she picked will be the same I expect. :D

I suppose it comes down to what the contract states about supply of appliances as to whether she can go source something herself.

With regards to the stainless steel thing, my oven back at our old place was an all singing all dancing brushed stainless steel Siemens model. It was lovely. :D

You could dismantle practically every part of it for cleaning, it cooked evenly and quickly, I loved it as much as my children. It cost a fortune but it was worth it to me.

I used to clean the front of it with a special stainless steel cleaner bought off the net. It gleamed. Did I tell you I loved it? :D

Anyway, fast forward to a point after son and girlfriend lived in the house and my beautiful oven is now badly scratched. :( The stainless steel trim has weird zigzag marks on the door, I have absolutely no idea what could have caused them, it's an oven built in to a tall unit, the door opens down onto nothing so it's a mystery. They they are there to stay now. :(

So yes, stainless steel can mark and look unsightly if you are not careful. *sob*
