Yes but they'll do that with everything anyway. The one she picked will be the same I expect. :D

I suppose it comes down to what the contract states about supply of appliances as to whether she can go source something herself.

It may well do but not being able to supply the one she ordered could have handed her a gift in that respect :D

I've had 2 new kitchens (different houses) in the last 7 or 8 years and I was probably a nightmare to deal with for both of them, the old adage about a little knowledge being a bad thing springs to mind :rotfl:

I sourced lots of stuff myself (and had a competitors tap installed in one case because I didn't like theirs  ) but I luuurve my kitchen :)

Well I can update after quite some time discussing various options, I have gone with a different oven and hob. I was basically told I could have whatever I wanted to £300 more than the one I had previously ordered.

I still would have preferred my original one - the more money to spend did'n't really make me feel any better, however I do like the one we now have and OH is very happy as it has a 'pizza cooking' option.................
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

If the company are doing the whole job for you just make them wait. Tough! I had a kitchen fitted in July. They want your business and they can not supply what you want tough!. They have to find a way.

When we ordered our kitchen I wanted a specific type of tap / sink and cooker. When they said they the units we had chosen could not hold it and that there was no way round it, it was only when we said that we would have to try somewhere else that magically found a solution. Which looks amazing. Cooker / sink and kitchen of my dreams ( I know its sad ).

Hold out for what you want. There are always deals and promotions so don't be pushed.

  • When we had our kitchen done 3yrs ago it was designed around the cooker - I knew I wanted a black rangemaster elan, and everything else had to fit around it.
So for me - it was very important!

Just had a look at my appliance and it seems it is a gas hob/grill/oven and not the most beautiful thing you've ever seen, don't even know what make it is, nor do I care.

It is a sort of dull silver finish and does what I need it do e.g. cook food so aesthetics aren't really a consideration.

Have to add, I've never cleaned the oven bit since I had it installed but my daughter did about a month ago, much to my astonishment.

I only ever cleaned the oven in the past if I couldn't fit the Christmas roast in, which wasn't very often, maybe once every ten years or so. It's a purely functional piece of kit, much like a car.

I'd like to be able to say that the look of an oven for me came way below its functionality and price. However I am a super fussy person when it comes to the style of things in my home. It wouldn't matter if I could create culinary masterpieces in the thing, if it looked wrong to me it would grate me for years. A kitchen refit is a big job and one you want to get right first time. If I were you I wouldn't rush into purchasing an appliance that you are not genuinely 100% happy about.

    I agree with Marisco :D

I just couldn't buy something I didn't like for my home no matter how great the item. I've had things in my home in the past that I haven't liked (I thought I liked them but then they haven't been practical - wood weave blinds and glossy tiles in the bathroom to name a couple) and they have done my head in.

As another poster said though, what matters most is what you think..
