Do people ever think you're 'odd' for being old style?
I thought it would be interesting to hear the reactions/opinions of others about being old style which we don't hear on these boards as we're all as thrifty as each other :o My MIL laughs at my old style ways (not in a mean way, she just finds it funny as it is 'different') and will regularly have to run out because they…

Log burners - worth the cost and hassle?
My boiler isn't working again, and even though we have no snow round here, it's freezing!!! We don't have chinmeys in our house (previous owners had them removed). We do have the chimney breast in our living room though and could install a log burner in this......but it would mean running the pipe up through our bedroom…

How do I clean a lilac suede sofa?
I have a pale lilac suede like material sofa which is very dirty on the arms. The material is very tactile and people keep running their hands up and down it so it has lots of dirty marks. Any idea of how I can clean it? We did have it done professionally a couple of years ago but it didn't do much and I think it took off…

How to repair splitting seams on jacket
I have a rust coloured Barbour jacket that I got in a sale about 20 years ago. I don't mind it being faded and scruffy, but now the sealed seams are splitting. It looks as though the sewn seams are pressed open and then sealed from the inside to the jacket fabric (guessing as can't see because of lining) and now the outer…

Feeding a crowd - beany ideas?
Morning MSErs! I just wanted to pick your collective brains for recipes involving beans and meat. We had some people over last night and enjoyed Rachel Allen's Lamb and Chickpea tangine, which effectively served nine. Although it involved 1 kg of cubed lamb, it also contained 3 cans of chickpeas, which I thought was a nice…
