Hi OSers,
Can anyone recommend a decent sieve? After shopping around for sieves I bought one like this from Robert Dyas about a month ago and the handle has just come apart:

I might have a go at soldering the handle back on.. but we've had this problem in the past with metal sieves
Either that or it rusts or falls apart and you end up stabbing yourself on the metal bits that are left sticking out.
Maybe it's me :rotfl: I do seem to be jinxed when it comes to buying sieves. I can't really do without one, as we eat quite a bit of rice. If anyone knows of a quality long-lasting sieve I'd be grateful for any recommendations

The only thing I use a sieve for is flour and perhaps this is part of your problem: the sieve isn't made for straining large volumes or heavy foodstuffs? Perhaps you need something rather more robust?0

I have a stainless one handled colander with small holes that I use for draining/rinsing rice & pasta like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prima-Stainless-Colander-Strainer-Handle/dp/B0080X30HY/ref=sr_1_39?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1364145536&sr=1-39 and I also have a plastic/nylon sieve which will cope with enough rice for one. (I also throw this in the dishwasher, although you're apparently not supposed to
)

Hm, you've both got me thinking now.. maybe I need a colander with really small holes, rather than a sieve. I've got a colander already, which I've had for years, but the holes are too large, the rice would fall through it.0

I use a plastic & nylon one too for rice - got it in Sainsburys but haven't seen the large ones for some time. I think Amazon have one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-Round-Plastic-Strainer/dp/B000YJ7B5Y/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364153621&sr=8-1-spell0

I have one similar to this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-Stainless-Conical-17-5cm/dp/B0001IWV44/ref=sr_1_8?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1364154296&sr=1-8
It's lasted for years.0
