Having been reading a loads and loads of threads over the past couple of weeks, i have finally taken some ideas and have been putting them into practice

So for the past 2 hours i have done an inventory of my food cupboards and my freezers - OMG to say i was shocked is an understatement, i knew there was a lot of food in them but after writing them down and putting them in some sort of order i think i need not shop for about 3 months.......

Need to go and look at some meal plans for the next couple of weeks.

Great thinking I type up and print a list which I have on the outside of my freezer so I know whats available I also do thesame for the inside of each of my kitchen food cupboards.I have now cut back immensely on shopping as I too seem to have enough food for an army. But great when you want to economise or even if the weather is just too bad to go shopping.Blu Tacked to the inside of each door it saves me hauling stuff out to see what I have and also means I don't buy stuff I already had in store and forgotten about Well done

Well done smokies, meal planning works for us. I've saved a small fortune, I do however like to keep well stocked cupboards, my stocks have come in useful this week as we are just about snowed in.

I'm a retired computer technician, and I have an Excel spreadsheet for the contents of my freezer. If it's 3 months from the date something went in, it flags it up to be used. If it's 6 months from the date I defrosted it, it reminds me to do it again.

I know, I need to get out more.

Also, to control the new stuff going into the store cupboard gulag, shop from a list. You only get the stuff you need, and don't get stuff you don't need.

I use an old monochrome PDA as as electronic shopping list. I use it more for this now, than I did when I first bought it.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

What i am really shocked with is the amount of food that i have got double and sometimes x 3 of - its made me think a bit more about what i really need to buy, or thinking of what i need.....

I have just joined the Grocery Challange, so hopefully i will be a little bit more aware of what i am buying ...
