How to reduce postage costs
I am not sure if this is the right place to put this post! Please move if appropriate. Now that royal mail has become a royal rip off with a 90p first class stamp there is a way to reduce your total cost of stamps. If you need to send birthday cards - send them in a batch in one envelope. The cost of batching up is only a…

Horrified at my DH's "little treats" !!
I do the general food shopping for the household, but my DH is forever coming home with "little treats" from the M&S near where he works. This could be naughty puddings for us all (5 in the family), or extras for dinner like chicken wings, garlic mushrooms etc. Lately it has become a nearly daily occurence (even tho I tell…

Best thing to light candles
Hi all, I use candles to freshen up my house and, as many of them come in jars, I now have a few that are so near the bottom of the jar that I can't light them with a lighter or a match. I recall that my Mam used to use things called spillsto light hers but can't find them or anything like them anywhere. Does anyone have…

Freezing home made mash & also re heating batch food
Hiya I am planning on making a few bath meals and was wondering can I freeze my home made mash? Do I put the milk and butter in before I freeze or when I take out to use? How would I heat frozen mash when I want to use it? Also if I make chilli, curry etc and freeze, how do I then re-heat/cook when I want to eat it?…

Make your own Brown Sugar
If you run out of brown sugar for a recipe you only need two ingredients to make your own, white sugar and molasses. I assume this is white sugar and treacle in the UK. http://www.alaskafromscratch.com/2012/04/29/kitchen-tip-homemade-brown-sugar/ ;)

Buy new cushion pads or make feather proof covers?
I've got a couple of lovely large feather cushions. However the feathers poke through, which is really uncomfortable and they're getting everywhere! I can either buy new pads.. a better quality feather pad or synthetic. JL do them for a tenner. Or I could make a thick inner cover that will stop the feathers getting…

Make your own Sweet Condensed Milk
I have just found this recipe, haven't tried it yet as I only found it a couple of minutes ago. We don't really use condensed milk but thought this may be worth a try for someone out there. You only need 4 ingredients which most of us already have in the cupboard. * 1 cup sugar * 1 cup dry powdered milk * 1/2 cup water * 1…
