I Hate Washing Up

Hi,
Ok title says it all - I get into a right mess almost all the time with the washing up, it piles up...and up and up...and up! Until theres no clean stuff left.
Im on my own and have three young kids, who also hate washing up, the eldest [11] only occasionally does it, even when money is offered!!
I tried doing it in little bits throughout the day, but a] my skin- I have exzema, it gets too dry b] I drop and break things with rubber gloves on, too slippy c] I refuse to spend all day doing washing up, cannot keep it up.
I keep wanting a dishwasher and theres a gap for one with the right plumbing under my worktop but ALL I hear is "oh no thats pointless as you still have to rinse everything, youll soon get bored, the cost of water, youll have to clean it out all the time" are these people right? Is a dishwasher as bad as all that?

You know batch cooking. I've invented batch washing-up.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

I've also heard people say that once they got a dishwasher they wondered how they ever did without it. Those are the people I choose to listen to because I intend to get one in the next few months as I also detest washing up, especially glasses!0

I had a dishwasher for about 5 years, then I had to move and there was no room/plumbing for it and I HATED washing up with a passion!! Then I moved again and had room for a dishwasher so bought one soon as! I would never voluntarily give up my dishwasher!
No advice for you... I used to be the same! Could never be bothered and it piled up until there were nothing clean left! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

I've never rinsed anything before it goes in the dishwasher. Not once. It doesn't sem to affect it at all. On the odd occasion when something is less than clean, I bung it back in for a second go.
Guess laziness pays sometimes, eh?:rotfl:0 -
I hate washing up. Dishwasher was my best ever purchase. The plan was to stick things in as soon as we are done with it but DH and DS still stack stuff on the sides and leave empty wrappers. Drives me insane.
Stacking and unpacking also gets classed as one of those invisible jobs that the kitchen fairy does when we are discussing division of labour.
I do love the cleanness of it, and I can't get glasses as clean by hand as I'm too lazy.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Find a dishwasher (Freecycle/Freegle - they often seem to come up on ours, when people have a kitchen refit) & use it until your kids are late teens & washing up/drying up becomes valuable discussing-things-with-Mum (or sibling) time. But do teach everyone how to load & unload it so that it does wash effectively! Half the time with ours, when we had one, it didn't, because someone had tucked in one last plate or long knife or whatever that stopped the arms going round properly. Thus meaning it all had to be washed again, or finished off by hand! But I'm sure you'll stop that happening.
My sister-in-law has had a dishwasher & sworn by them since the mid 1970s, when everyone else saw them as the height of laziness. But she calculated how much time she spent at the sink, and what that would cost if she were paid at the same rate as she earned in her day job - she's a mathematics lecturer - added in the cost of hot water & detergent as opposed to DW powder, rinse-aid & electricity and "proved" that it was an extremely cost-effective device. It was remarkable how quickly the rest of the family had them, too!Angie - GC Sept 25: £311.65/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
