Red egg white - help please!
Can any of you chicken keepers out there give me some advice please? DD has just called to say that she was making a cake using some free range eggs from a neighbour and one of the eggs whites was completely red. She scooped it out and carried on. Unthinkingly, she licked the bowl clean, remembered the red 'white' and is…

Washing-up... Hot water??
Just a quick question... Is is okay to use cold/lukewarm water for washing-up? Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a dishwasher :( I have been trying to cut our bills down and have succeeded in getting the gas bill down to less than £10 a month this summer :j. We use gas for hot water, heating and cooking. I try to do…

What's happened to my pan?
I have a Judge saute pan and the base has gone concave, it's no longer flat and rocks on the flat electric plate of my cooker. It seems like now only food in the very centre gets cooked, food on the outside of the pan barely sizzles I need to get a new pan but want to know what caused this so I don't write off another pan…

Basic Recipes for Novice Cook
I wanted to pick the collective OS brain :D I want to create a book of basic recipes for a friend who is a complete novice when it comes to cooking. She'd never even baked a cake before. I was thinking of including all the simple recipes we use instinctively that she wouldn't know for starters eg how to make a basic white…

Windfalls
Probably a daft question but how big do windfalls have to be before you can cook with them? My tree is loosing apples like no tomorrow and the way it's going there will be none left to make anything with. The windfalls range from about 1.5 inch across to about 2.5 inch and smell quite perfumery. I did debate with myself…

Apple juicing
Hi everyone. I have loads of apples on my tree, ripening fast. I want to make them into apple juice but have no pressing machine here! The local farm will press them for me, but will charge me, obviously. As an alternative, would it work if I put the chopped apples into the microwave till they're mushy, and then press…

Help with my washing machine please
Thurday evening I purchased from Lidl a bottle of V5 washing machine cleaner. I followed the instructions to the letter and left the machine running with the fluid in it while we went off to bed. At 2am I was awoken by the smell of vomit. We couldn't track it down until morning but its from the washing machine since we…

How to Clean Straw
I found an abandoned huge White Company straw beach/shopper bag yesterday while out and about in a slightly less than pristine state. Have taken it home and wiped it with a damp cloth inside but there is the problem of dirt on the outside. Slightly smudged with dirt and black marked. Is there any way I can clean this thing…

Instructions for Soya Milk Machine
Hi there, if a kind user of the Yaoh Soya/Hemp/Nut Milk Machine can help me out, I'd be very grateful! Being a bit technically challenged and a bit of a Luddite doesn't help (e.g., still haven't got used to using a digital camera - keep putting it to my eye - I'm truly Old Style!). So if you have one of these machines I…
