Windfalls

Probably a daft question but how big do windfalls have to be before you can cook with them?
My tree is loosing apples like no tomorrow and the way it's going there will be none left to make anything with.
The windfalls range from about 1.5 inch across to about 2.5 inch and smell quite perfumery.
I did debate with myself whether to put this here or in the garden thread and you guys won;)

Personally - I use the lot and just chop out bad bits and cook up with the rest.
Waste not want not and all that...:)0 -
Tiny apples like that make great jam with other fruit, especially fruit that doesn't set so well, like blackberries or strawberries. Just wash and chop, no need to peel or core, put in a saucepan with enough water to cover them, and simmer until soft. Then rub through a sieve to get all the pulp without the pips and skin.
Then add the pulp to whatever fruit you want to jam, and carry on from there.
The apple pulp is also great on its own as apple sauce, or add to cakes etc. Freezes well too.If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
Thanks for the replies, I'll wait until tomorrow now, there will probably me more the way this wind is brewing up.
