How to Clean Straw

Reverbe

I found an abandoned huge White Company straw beach/shopper bag yesterday while out and about in a slightly less than pristine state. Have taken it home and wiped it with a damp cloth inside but there is the problem of dirt on the outside. Slightly smudged with dirt and black marked. Is there any way I can clean this thing up a bit? Thanks

It would really help if you can identify the dirt. Is it surface grubbiness or ingrained?
What I would try - a rubber (eraser) especially if you can get a soft one.
Then some warm water and mild detergent. (washing up liquid). If it's a fairly flat weave I would dampen a bit of old towel with it and work it round, or possibly a SOFT(ish) brush and gently scrub. Remove the water/detergent mixure with another bit of old towel and ALLOW to dry in a breeze outside if possible but out of direct sunlight.
And Reverbe - whatever were you doing out and about in a less that pristine state?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
