can you freeze cookies?...

Evenin all
quick -as always freezer-based ;) - question!!
I made a (double) batch of cookies this evening- think i may have underestmiated just how many it would make! .... Is it possible to freeze the cookies once theyre cooked or do I have to eat/give them away over the next few days (which could be disastorous for the diet ;) )

Well, it depends on the cookies, but you could try putting them in an airtight tin/container. I would guess that the harder they are the better they will keep this way.

But if they are really good I suspect you won't have a storage issue...

Anyway - wrap and freeze 2 or 3 for 24 hrs and then defrost. That should give you your answer.

  • Plastic sandwich bag, and an airtight container. Should keep for a few days that way.
  • I think you should be forced to eat them as penance for underestimating how many you would make! ;)

  • I have frozen both baked cookies and cookie dough many times with excellent result. I can also tell you that I have eaten many of them still frozen solid:D

Since I am am American, I have a question. What is the difference between cookies and biscuits (which is what I thought UK'ers called cookies)?

I've always thought it's just a tomayto/tomarto thing - they're all made of the same basic ingredients I think? Flour, sugar, baking powder/bicarb, butter/marge, other bits and bobs, blob onto baking trays, bung em in the oven... ta daaa... biccies! Or cookies :D

  • thanks all!! Gave some to a neighbour and had one for breakfast! ;) still loads left so will put 2 in the freezer for a day or so to see what the outcome is!
  • In my experience, all cookies freeze well. I always make a big batch and then freeze about half in bags of 8 or so to defrost a few at a time.

In fact, you can even use them for picnics that way, as if you take them out of the freezer at breakfast, they'll be defrosted by lunchtime. :-)

As for the difference between cookies and biscuits, I've always thought it's up to how runny the dough is. Cookie dough you usually spoon balls onto a tray and press them flat. Biscuit dough you roll out and cut out circles or shapes.
