Homemade gifts - how long do they keep?
I have been lurking for years, and finally plucked up the courage to ask the first of what I am sure will be many dumb questions. I have a few books with Christmas gift ideas, but they don't say how long they keep, eg truffles, biscotti, christmas tree gingerbread decorations. As money is tight this year I want to make…

Do you eat pudding?
Hi all I am pretty good at mealplanning and cost saving thanks to this website but I am thinking about ways to cut back further as winter looms. I wondered how many people regularly make puddings to feed their families, rather than as an occasional treat? When I was little Mum made lots of puddings, which I now realise was…

Fixing plastic curtain rails to double glazing frames
I've had the front door and adjoining window changed to double glazed ones, and the difference last winter was amazing. However I can't fix curtain rails to the window surround (metal over-window joist), so they'd have to be put on the frames themselves. How should I do this so it won't compromise the frames and will be…

Handy tip for making curries
Hi all. I've posted this on another thread but it's 70 odd pages so I think it has got lost. My Asian friend has given me lots of great advice about making curries and using up ingredients. She blends ginger and garlic into olive oil and freezes in an ice cube tray then puts into freezer bags. She does the same with…

M&S washing instructions?
My OH recently bought some new shirts for work-M&S ultimate non-iron 100% cotton jobs, they are nice (but do need ironing-he does that:p) Question is-I went to put a wash on this evening, and looking at the instructions-they state a 40 degree wool wash-now, they are 100% cotton, so WHY can't I do on a cotton wash? Bottles for Sloe Gin etc
I am going to make Sloe Gin and Blackberry Vodka (hopefully!) for some Xmas presents this year. I have saved the 'Bottle Green' bottles as they are a nice shape and are the right size. Help -Jam jars not sealed
Hi I've made some damson jelly yesterday which has set beautifully but unfortunately the jars do not seem to have sealed. I'm worried the jelly will become mouldy and I don't want this to happen after all the effort. Is there any way I can reheat jelly in the jars or do I have to reheat it in a pan? Thanks
