OS Daily Monday 5th Sept

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 5th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Back to work full time today, no doubt it will be a day of chaos & confusion.
My pack up is ready, all I need to do is remember to pick it up, it's salad from the garden with a small pot of hummus & a few strawberries also from the garden.
Let's hope we get the God lecture over quickly, one of my colleagues is very devout & we will all get a lecture on our ungodly habits when we arrive. I wouldn't mind, I'm glad she has strong beliefs, but I have mine too & I'd feel better if she wasn't boffing another staff member despite being married, I find her hypocrisy a little wearing, lol.
Heyho, the joys of work, 20 new staff to meet & explain our systems too, a room full of new machines that were guarenteed (sp) to be installed by today, daft Doris will have to be shown how to send email again, she's been doing it for 7 years, but still gets in a muddle & has been known to forward inappropriate emails to the head instead of to me as our initials are similar. It will be busy!
Have good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all who follow,
It is back to work this morning and I am looking forward to seeing all my friends at work again, we don't have any children in till Wednesday so it will be calm and peaceful till then.
Betheebee best wishes and healing thoughts to your DD.
Bitsy I would love to have joined in with the netball but they were all much better than I have ever been, I always had a height disadvantage as I am only 5 ft 2! My daughters team came 4th which was a really good result for them, their coach was so pleased after one match that she ran onto the court and hugged them all!
Hugs to all that are in need, so many of you have troubles in your lives at the moment.
Tea tonight will be stir fry made with last nights left over pork.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning Hester, Moorhen and all to follow.
Hope your lecture doesn't go on too long Hester :rotfl:
Monday again
Today will be a little bit of everything, DS goes back to school tomorrow so will mainly be getting him organised, he goes into deep depression at the end of the holidays!
I have some office work that needs to be done, some ironing (a little bit of an understatement) and the kitchen floor desperately needs some attention. Have a big Sainsburys shop coming as well so want to clean the fridge out first.
Dinner tonight will be chicken portions with gratinated potatoes.
Have a good day all.x0 -
Good Morning x
Hester - really hope your day goes well x
We are here in Bath. A lovely hotel and were upgraded to get a ground floor room:T:T:T We went to the American Museum yesterday and it was really interesting, particularly the OS content, which the American settlers knew how to do really well. I was also very interested in the quilts as I have an original Amish quilt from when I visited an Amish midwife in Tennessee. Today we are going to the roman baths and then I am hoping to get Kids Dad his birthday present. It all seems quiet at home and i have been fretting as this is the first time I have gone away longer than a night:eek:
Hugs to all those who need one xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all,
Looks like a nice day here, has been raining all night, but the sun is making an appearance now :j will get some washing on the go shortly.
DD is up which is a first this early for 3 monthscollege starts today, this is the forst time for 11 years or so that she has not had to put a unirorm on, means another step to being grown
Dinner tonight will be cottage pie with loads of veg, my corgette plants in the garden have decided to start producing, and I am getting 2 or 3 a day :T
The usual housework to do today, and an online shop, must do a cheap one this week, feeling the pinch a little bit from the bathroom, and we need to save £500 to get something done with the electric.
Beth hope your dd is ok, and good luck for your tests this morning xx
Topsy good luck for today xx
Good luck for those starting back to school / college today xx
Have fun all xx0 -
Morning all, can't quite believe it, but the boys are up, showered, dressed in uniform, bags packed, lunches packed, breakfasted and have already asked can we go yet?!!! Not for another hour. Wish this was a sign of things to come! Today will be a day of cleaning and clearing up - and I have to sort out the garage so that tomorrow the new dryer can be delivered. Yes not very OS, but I need it sometimes and the mechanic that was going to fix it never turned up - despite me phoning him (grrrr!).
Weather set to worsen over the next few days so will have to delve in the freezer to see what I can make. Back on diet today after having had a day off. Cats out already, terrorising the local wildlife! Have to make several trips to the local skips today as OH sat on a chair and broke it at the weekend. Didn't take the hint to lose weight though!!
Hugs to all in need and celebrations for all those parents who have kids in school today - someone put this on my fb page - had to share.
"Twas the night before school started, when all through the town, the parents were cheering... It was a riotous sound! By 8, kids were washed and tucked into bed... Where memories of homework filled them with dread! New pencils, new folders, new notebooks too! New teachers, new friends...Their anxiety grew! The parents just giggled when they learned of this fright- and shouted upstairs: Go To Bed! It's A School Night!"Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning everyone
Overcast and chilly, but has stopped raining at the moment, but more forecast for later. Had really heavy rainfall yesterday afternoon, rained so hard so quickly my back garden was a huge pond, but once rain stopped within 20 mins it had started to dry up. The ground is so dry here it's not soaking the water up when it does rain. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.
I'm back to work today, boys are going to mum's so will take them before I go into work. Will be collecting DH after work and going to see my Aunt, she's poorly and I haven't been but know I should go, so going to go after work, sounds horrible but not particularly looking forward to it as last time I saw her she wasn't very nice to me. Keep having to remember she's very ill, alone and been told docs can't do anymore for her, but she can be quite nasty, but need to know I've done the best I can so will rise above her comments.
Work no doubt will be interesting today, I've been off for 2 weeks so there will be loads of emails etc awaiting me and most possibly loads of customers too.
Car back in the garage but should be fixed by Wednesday, starter motor went Sat morning.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

I couldn't wake up this morning, we went to bed at 10pm yesterday and I just wanted to stay in bed forever. So getting the late train today. Going to speak to my boss with the aim of getting weds - fri off to go visit my grandad.
OH has finished harvest for this year (we think, small jobs may crop up now and then) So he's needs to get advertising with his digger as thats what keeps a roof over our head in the winter!
Lunch is spicy lentil soup i made on saturday, with grapes and yoghurt for snacking. Not sure what to make for dinner - the kitchen is a TIP so need to clean that tonight before i even think about cooking. I need to save the easy dinners for OH to cook when i am away. i had meal planned but will see how i feel when i get in.
hugs to all who need them
