M&S washing instructions?

My OH recently bought some new shirts for work-M&S ultimate non-iron 100% cotton jobs, they are nice (but do need ironing-he does that:p)
Question is-I went to put a wash on this evening, and looking at the instructions-they state a 40 degree wool wash-now, they are 100% cotton, so WHY can't I do on a cotton wash? (its the 40 degree basket with 2 lines underneath)
The wool wash is quicker, but only spins at 800 on my machine, so can't use that for the heavier cotton one, but does anyone have any idea why they say I need to use it? I will use if it will ruin the shirts, but really can't be bothered with running extra washes (I usually do 1-2 wool/delicates a week as my gym stuff etc goes in that, but if having to do shirts that will add more?)

M&S have started recommending cooler washing on their clothes as part of their environmental policy with a lot of things suggesting just 30 or 40 degrees. The fabrics however are the same as they have ever been, their new wash cooler stuff isn't special in any way as far as I can tell. Cotton is cotton and I doubt they're bothering with special dyes and just use the safe at 60 ones everyone else does for the European market. Anyway, all my new M&S wash at 30 and 40 cotton stuff goes in the wash at 60 with no problems, it was in fact quite a while before I even realised they were suggesting lower temperatures now. Obviously I still stick to lower temperatures for synthetics.0

Maybe it's because the lower spin speed will cause less creasing?[0

Yeah, our machine doesn't do 30 degree wash unless its silk (no spin)
If its only the creasing I'm happy to do at regular-as I said, I don't do the ironing
I just didn't want to banjax his new shirts :eek:0 -
Ironing seems like a happily distant memory now
I've hardly had to do the ironing in months. I've been using persil liquid tabs and discovered that if things are hung to dry somewhat carefully, not bunched up or anything, then they have almost no creases. Not quite as perfect as ironed things, but after 15 minutes of wearing them I'm convinced I couldn't tell the difference.
