Urine!
is a well known compost activator and apparently if mixed with wood ash makes an excellent veg fertilizer. This got me thinking. In ye olde days urine was used in cleaning, if I remember correctly something to do with getting whites white, urine containing ammonia . So ,instad of flushing this valuable commodity down the…

Old coffee stain
I spilled some coffee on a powder blue (dry clean only) coat. Two weeks later took it to Morrisons Supermarket Dry cleaning Dept. Just picked it up with note saying something like "couldn't get stain out and may damage fabric if try any stronger cleaning fluid" I'm gutted, looks exactly the same as when I handed it in. I…

Can't Get Paddle Out of BM bread without destroying the loaf
My bread machine makes decent bread (as long as I get all the quantities EXACTLY right) but I haven't ever managed to get the paddle out of the cooked loaf without destroying the middle part of the loaf. I've tried getting it out straight away & leaving it for different times but nothing works. I end up with 2 "ends" & the…

Keeping colours bright
Hi! I've just been doing some ironing, and my girls got some little red peppa pig outfits for their birthday. I'd say they've only been washed 3 times, but the top is looking faded. It almost has a grey sheen to it, as if it's bobbling and the bobbles are grey. But it's not quite bobbling - it's just not as smooth as it…

IF I do, I will get an autosexing breed so I can tell which are male/female when they are just a day old. Problem is.... (i'm cringing even writing this) that I can only keep hens here, not cockerals so... what would…

Do you spend £10.00 per month on food you don't eat
I read today that the average person buys at least a tenners worth of food every month that gets stored in the cupboard until its out of date then binned. It said that there was around £297 million pounds worth of old out of date foodstuff in the nations cupboards. My resolution this year is to use up as much as I can…

Defrosting Ham Joint - What Can I do With It?
I brought a large ham joint for christmas and put half of it in the freezer. I need to 'live off the land' so to speak this month so Im trying to think what i can make out of it. There are only 2 of us and the joint is a little large even though its only half of what i brought :o As I have frozen it, im presuming once…

Meal planning and last minute visitors
My meal planning tends to go to pot when I have unexpected visitors. Its by no means regular, but I do sometimes have my niece and nephew over at the last minute, for example, if my sister is running late (I finish work at 4pm), I might pick them up. If I plan a meal for me, OH and DS (who is 8 months) then it normally…
