i knitted a waistcoat for my mum in that funny eyelash yarn. it came out really nice but as shes a touch on the older side bless her, she gets cold very quick and i was thinking of trying to add some sleeves on for her. i have found some of the wool leftover but am not sure if its enough or even what sort of pattern should i take the sleeve details from. i have 200g, would that be enough? and can anyone help with suggesting some pattern for a sleeve?

Hmmmm. Am keen knitter, but have never tried that before. If I was going to try it, I think I'd go & look at patterns in similar yarn, & copy out a sleeve instruction, make one, and see if you can unpick the side seams in your waistcoat to try & make it fit. I had a problem with a present I'd knitted too, over Christmas. I knitted my littlest nephew a jumper and it wouldn't go over his head. I unpicked the seam at the neckband & a little way down the shoulder and added two button loops & that rescued all my hard work. So, my feeling is that it's worth a go, or perhaps your Mum can wear another jumper underneath? Best of luck with it x2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Have to say that furry eyelash yarn isn't that warm anyway, mostly because it's usually synthetic. You'd be better off spending the time knitting her another cardigan in pure wool or a wool mix blend...you can get superwash wools that mean the garment can be hand washed. There's very little that can beat natural fibres such as wool, alpaca, cashmere etc when it comes to warmth. If you want a really fabulous but inexpensive wool blend that knits up beautifully, look for Sirdar Balmoral. It has to be one of the best quality yarns at a bargain price you can buy.Val.0

not looked yet, but have explained to her that 200g may not be enough for 2 full length sleeves. so what i was thinking was when i have found a suitable pattern i would knit both sleeves on the one needle so that when i did run out at least they would be the same length. also being a hand made thing its not as if anyone would know how long the sleeves would be. not looking forward to unpicking the side seam but needs must. i know she will not feel comfortable wearing it again as it is, she also worried over batwings! so if i dont alter it, it will never see the light of day again and all that hard work would have been wasted. plus!! if i say so myself it did turn out very well. all suggestions welcome0 -
But a waistcoat is designed to wear over a sweater or blouse she's surely not wearing it with bare arms? Can she not just wear a thicker sweater underneath and the waistcoat will give her added warmth to her body..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

she could do a number of these suggestions but unfortunately she now has a bee in her bonnet about having sleeves added. you can tell shes a non-knitter and has no idea what a task she is asking. does anyone have a arm patterns they think may be suitable please?0
