Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 8th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone - up early again due to painkillers wearing off. Was having a very strange dream about a motorbike that I was riding that I kept revving up, but going no where. When I woke up - the reason was obvious - OH was snoring and my revving up, was his snores. Came into the sitting room to find DS1 up, dressed and watching BBC news!!!!! No idea how long hes been up, but at least it means he'll be early to bed tonight.:)
This weekend have to gut the sitting room as am moving the furniture around, so will use the opportunity to take the curtains down and double line them with some velvet curtains (splattered with paint!!!!) that I unloaded from my MILs loft! Much better I think than throwing them away. I have no idea how old the paint is and it looks like gloss, so I'm not going to try to remove the stains. On the otherside of the curtain it won't matter and will still keep me warm.
Dinner tonight will be something easy from the freezer as I'm finding that I can't do very much due to the pain / drowsyness. Am sure it will pass soon.
This weekend is supposed to be the worst of the year as its the first weekend since Christmas - and adding the cold weather..... brrrrr. So has anyone got any tips for seeing this weekend through? As I said above I'll be sorting things out, but then will have a movie hour with the children all snuggled up under our duvets. Sunday will be a lovely roast I think - diet starts on Monday !!! Hugs to those in need and hi fives to anyone with something to celebrate xx

Morning Esmf & all who follow
Todays plans include emptying the larder cupboard & reorganising it, I'm also getting rid of some pots & pans as I have too many. My kitchen is fairly big as it is a kitchen diner, but I need to thin out the amount of carp in it!
DS should be collecting my car later, as long as the part he ordered has arrived, I hope it has it's very inconvenient living here without one & it is also cheaper to run the car than use public transport.
Full monty for hubby's breakfast when he gets up & fish pie for tea tonight, I'm doing the HFW one, not cheap, but very yummy.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Peeps
heavy rain here today but at least all the snow has disappeared :j we`ll have the floods then now shall we?
Think the doggies will be a bit mucky after their walk
Last night there was nothing on telly so i stayed in the kitchen and made a huge lasagne, i need to portion it up for the freezer and then i can use my huge earthenware dish to make enchiladas, i always make these in the same style as a lasagne as i can`t really be bothered with the wraps so i layer them up side by side with an overlap in the middle - works for us
Today i plan on sorting out one of the upstairs cupboards amongst other things, i don`t know why this particular cupboard always end up in such a state but it does and it never seems to stay tidy for very long after its been done either, at least it will be later
Right another cuppa is calling me so off to pop the kettle on!
Churchmouse - :hello:
Have a super Saturday peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning All
Very wet and windy here today, January is such a miserable month
My plan to get through this weekend is just to keep busy! Have no choice in the matter really
Have Asda delivery this morning then 3 hours on my second job. This afternoon will be spent ironing, catching up on stuff I have sky+'d. Making kfc style chicken wraps tonight, coat the chicken with egg and seasoned flour and shallow fried - lovely. Think will also make some stuffed mushrooms with the pate leftover from Xmas.
Have loads of lemons leftover as well so think pancakes will feature this weekend. Will also use some for cleaning.
Thats it for now I think, house is lovely and peaceful as kids are still in bed
Have a great day.x0 -

I will be busy this weekend , I have to go shopping as i couldnt get out yesterday due to the snow then i am having my hair cut , need to pick dd2 up from a sleepover
tomorrow DD1 is on a course in rotherham so will be taking her to that and picking her up later and its MIL's birthday and SIL is doing a lunchtime party
not to mention the neverending washing cleaning cooking
have a good weekend everyone xx0 -
Essex-girl - how about making Lemon Curd? My MIL makes it and it is gorgeous - have to keep it in the fridge and hope I forget about it as otherwise it would be gone within 2 days. Just made Earth Bender (The last Airbender is current favourite film in this house!) rocks for breakfast - AKA home made scotch pancakes with some green food colouring. They went down well - as long as you can get past the colour (which when blue looks a bit yucky!) it tastes OK. Freezer is full atm, so will be making a list to see what we will be eating over the next few months. Oh's last day at work on Tuesday - been in the army for 20+ years and it all finishes on Tuesday - don't know how we're going to manage yet, but it hasn't been a choice of his making. MUST get dressed .......Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

Morning
Today will be a lazy day, the morning will be spent watching Saturday Kitchen and make some vegetable soup for lunch, maybe even some soda bread.
My hubby managed to get some coconut milk for 50p a can (they were delivered mistakenly to his work) so will be make a leftover turkey curry for tea tonight.
Off to see a friend this afternoon and debating whether to walk the mile in the rain or be lazy and get the car?
Hope everyone has a great day today!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Morning everyone.
Snowed yesterday but then the persistent rain afterwards washed it away.
Chinese food last night was lovely :j just a great end to the first working week.
This weekend isn't going to be flat (heard all about it on the radio yesterday and thought it tosh). There are so many things to do and enjoy, even if it's resting after the festive rigours and a working week. I've got a couple of books which were delivered to work and I had forgotten so that's a 'task'. I'm trying to read a lot of work by Scottish authors, I'm tired of American stuff, and have got books by Lin Anderson and Alex Gray. Waiting in the wings is Val McDermid and Stuart McBride.
So, it's going to be a 'look after myself for a change' type weekend. :j Got bacon and eggs for breakfast which I really enjoy - I buy the Ayrshire roll bacon from the farm shop and it's delicious, back bacon and streaky still joined together!
Still no lurgys in this household for which I am truly grateful. Wishing those who are ill a fast recovery.
Now, first coffee of the day. Shower and then a Time Team fest!! :eek:0 -

That brings back memories for me - my father was a regular in the RE and when he was demobbed he hated civvy life and found it very difficult to adapt to it. Mind you that was way way back and the soldiers were much more institutionalised then and not at all well prepared for being out there. I still have his huge heavy demob coat - big black thing which takes enormous strength to even lift! Can still see him wearing it.
I hope you and your OH have a fab civilian life!0 -

Indulge??? Oh yes... without a doubt. I have eaten enough cardboard dust, soggy cornflakes or hard toast to last me a long time. Soft egg with crispy edged bacon wins hands down, every time!
Indulge away - cos you're worth it!! :rotfl::rotfl:0
