I read today that the average person buys at least a tenners worth of food every month that gets stored in the cupboard until its out of date then binned.
It said that there was around £297 million pounds worth of old out of date foodstuff in the nations cupboards.
My resolution this year is to use up as much as I can from my cupboards and fridge /freezer before I have to buy anything else.
Come on own up how many of you have got things 'lurking' in your storecupboards that you bought just in case I know I have around 10 tins of sardines that someone gave me that I haven't got around to eating yet.
Sardines on toast anyone ??:rotfl:

Guilty
Possibly more... Actually probably more
:o:o
However, I am doing my best to STOP wasting food. Its frightening how much it adds up to :eek:0 -
I can't actually remember the last time I threw some food away. I have quite a lot of out of date stuff; mostly tins, sauces, jams, spices etc. I eat it regardless. Fresh stuff gets eaten whether I'm hungry or not, I hate waste! I guess I am my own dustbin. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Send the sardines to me Jackie, my wee dog loves them
I think I probably do waste a pound or two every week, usually carrots, I am always buying carrots but never eat as many as I buyIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -
I don't waste 10 quid a month on food. I have stuff in the cupboard not used (yet) but use it, I will.
On the rare occasion I get it wrong it actually really annoys me.:dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will. :dance:0 -
:o
I do
I'm in the middle of having a huge clear out as in a month or 2 we are having a new kitchen, so am going through all the cupboards.
Its use up and throw away out of date items.
Why do I have 3 tins of red kidney beans (all out of date) I have never cooked with them, now in the bin, I've alsorts of 'gems' tucked away at the back!
I'm downsizing my tin storage to combat this problem in future!0 -
I try not to, but I'm not perfect. I hate wasting things.
Wouldn't bother about 'storecupboardy' type things myself - it's not like there's a tin of tomatoes sitting there counting down the days till it can go off!Things like that do last a good while - I wouldn't know how old some of the bits in my 'baking' or spice cupboards are :rotfl:
It's the fresh stuff that needs using up. Soups are a particular favourite of mine - everything goes in a soup :drool:jackieglasgow wrote: »I think I probably do waste a pound or two every week, usually carrots, I am always buying carrots but never eat as many as I buy
In for a newspaper for my mum, oh I'll just buy a bag of carrots while I'm here... I dunno why0 -
:rotfl: that's me!!!! I can't eat as much soup as I can make with my carrot supplies most weeks. In the supermarket...what do I need? Oh yes, lets buy another bag of carrots.Luckily the dog likes those too, so she helps me out! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I dont' think I waste that much most of the time, but I did go through a patch recently where I wasn't eating properly so stuff was wasted (salad mostly, the rest I cooked and froze). However, I do have three freezers FULL of food, but still feel more like cooking than eating. I'm currently making a huge effort to plan my meals from the freezer (today I had friends over and managed to use up a blackberry & apple crumble and the remains of a bag of frozen spinach) and avoid buying anything more. I'd like to be able to switch off the chest freezer in a couple of months... (some of the stuff in there is for my DB and SIL who have a tiny freezer, but I still should be able to fit that into one of the other two!)0

I only throw the odd amount of cat food "meow" doesn't eat.
Myself I only buy what I know I will consume.
Often I am open to what I will eat according to offers. (fruit/veg/salad/meat/fish) i.e. this week as Scampi was on offer and chicken breast wasn't I will have scampi for din dins a couple of times!!!0 -
