is a well known compost activator and apparently if mixed with wood ash makes an excellent veg fertilizer. This got me thinking. In ye olde days urine was used in cleaning, if I remember correctly something to do with getting whites white, urine containing ammonia . So ,instad of flushing this valuable commodity down the loo should we be using it in the washing machine? anyone have any info?

I hadn't considered there would be different grades of pee. I can envisage potty stealing in the quest for virgin pee. :rotfl:£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

if you can get hold of a copy of the Green Valley - same crew as the Edwardian Farm - Ruth spot treats all the nasty stains in the closthing with stale urine (ammonia) before taking it to the river to wash.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Thinking about this..................so why would urine stain my cotton sheets if DG wets the bed? I usually have to boil the !!!!!! twice (sheet not DG).0

When DG wets the bed the urine is fresh.
Urine for washing and bleaching is stale.0 -
There are some things I don't mind trying; some out of curiosity, some because I'm trying to find a better remedy than is currently available.
This won't be one of them0 -
This reminds me of years ago when my (slightly deaf) Dad was asked by a cleaning wench at the tudor historic village at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford "hello sir, will you pi$$ in my pot?" We were all killing ourselves laughing by the time my Dad had replied "pardon?" several times thinking he had misheard her!!
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
