Can't Get Paddle Out of BM bread without destroying the loaf

My bread machine makes decent bread (as long as I get all the quantities EXACTLY right) but I haven't ever managed to get the paddle out of the cooked loaf without destroying the middle part of the loaf.

I've tried getting it out straight away & leaving it for different times but nothing works. I end up with 2 "ends" & the top half of the middle of the loaf, the rest of it ending up as bits that I dunk in soup.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've searched the breadmaking thread, but can't find anything.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

What BM do you have? Someone may have same one and can give you advice then.

Mine leaves a little hole in it when I take it out, all I do it turn bucket upside down and tap the bottom gently and it falls out.

could you spray or paint it with oil before putting everything in just to give it a helping hand? My problem is a bit different - I can't get the damn paddle off it's spindle.

With mine, I have to hold the little spindle underneath the bread tin and hold that still whilst I twist the paddle.
  • Its a Morphy Richards 48220.

Its almost as if the paddle sits too high as when I take the bread out you can only see a tiny bit of it, & the bread covers most of it, so I have to dig about to find the darn thing. But as far as I can see there is only 1 position the paddle can be in, & I can't raise it up.

How much paddle can be seen in most loaves when it is first taken out?

I use a small sharp knife and prize it around the base of the paddle until I find the long part that sticks out.

I then cut a notch on either side of that long part and then put the tip of the knife under the base of the paddle and prize it up towards that long bit.

It works quite well with a bit of patience and I only usually end up with two slices being affected, which I use for toast, or to eat with soup or curry.

    Hope this helps.

  • I've tried putting oil on the paddle but it doesn't seem to help. I find the best way is just to dig it out and leave the bit with the hole in to make bread and butter pudding with.

I worked out the timings now for my morphy richards and took out the paddle before it started the bake part of the cycle - then all that's left is the hole from the spindle.

I think MR have a helpline, I'd give them a call and see if they can suggest anything.

My old Cookworks BM required brute force to get the paddle out of the bread but the Panny paddle stays attached to the pan and just pops out of the bread with little problem.

I have a Panny and most of the time when i tip out the loaf the paddle stays in the pan, if it does stick in the loaf and can't be picked out, i just leave it. All it means is when you're slicing the loaf you need to take care as you get towards the middle and as soon as the paddle starts to show, try and pick it out then with a pointy knife.
