cabbage in wholegrain mustard sauce
Had cabbage in wholegrain mustard sauce at a carvery yesterday, it was lovely. Anyone make this? It was a loose (almost milky) white sauce, with wholegrain mustard & the cabbage was steeped in it. Googled it but can't find anything that seems it. Anyone else had this at a carvery? I've found this…

Puree Vegetables
A while ago I was off sick and thought it would be a good idea to make some soup. I am a er... adventurous cook, and tend to just make it up. 50% of the time everything works out ok. :rotfl: I ended up making puree vegetables. I have added so much stock to this stuff and its still really thick. I froze it, but now I need…

How about this for old style moneysaving.....
I have just found a whole book on Google books which you can either read online (there are 136 pages but the print is quite small and not many paragraphs!), or download as a pdf file to read at your leisure. It's called the American Frugal Housewife but it's from the early 1800's so will def be oldstyle moneysaving! I like…

I want to buy a slow cooker, and start cooking our meals
Hi all, I am getting rather fed up with getting to the end of the day, having fed the children and then having to make a start on our food once they are in bed. DH often works from home, but refuses to eat at 4:30pm with the kids, and they go stir crazy if they have to wait any longer! Can anyone recommend a good slow…

which way to point knives on a magnetic rack?
Sorry this is a bit of a pathetic question. Which way up would you store knives on a magnetic rack? I have googled looking for an answer but have found some say handle on top and some handle beneath. What do you wise folk think please? The rack is above the worktop so no fear of knives falling onto feet or owt.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
I'm looking for a foolproof choc chip cookie recipe. Recently I have tried a number of recipes from the net and they all see to be a cross between a cake and a biscuit, but not in a good way, they are too crisp at the outside and too soft in the middle. I'm not interested in an american style soft, chewy cookie but just a…

Using up frozen rolls
Hi all Have had a freezer clear out today and appear to have accumulated about 35 finger rolls which really need using up and are taking far too much space up in said freezer - the question is what should I make with them  I was going to use some up in a bread pudding - do you think this will work ? But any other…

Colourful Modular Chicken Coop
Hello! A couple of years ago I saw some amazing chicken coops at the Royal Show and I can't remember what the company was called. They were quite small plastic chicken houses that were suitable for small gardens, the words egg and pod come to mind but have been searching and can't find them. They were not particularly…

I hope I'm posting on the right board here and apologies if I'm not. I thought this would be fun for those with children.
