OS Daily Thread - Monday 8th February 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 8th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier! As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS lovelies,
Jackie0 - A belated Happy birthday for yesterday hon!
Penpin - So so sorry for your loss. Big hugs coming your way
Mioliere - Hope you are having a great time with your family.
SunnyGirl - Really pleased you finally took my advice!!

Anguk - Very happy that Martyn is making such a fast recovery.
Curlytop - Always nice to see you post. You aren't far from me in Exeter.
Nic1 - thank you for the pm and again, I am so sorry for the loss of your doggie.
N9eav - Hope your party went well at the weekend.
aplaceinthesun - We chose to have the vet come here when my last darling cat had to be put down at 19. She always hated going in the car so it seemed kinder to her.
Noahs - thank you so much for the link to the videos. Just makes me appreciate mums like you and Bitsy all the more.
Molly - big
honey. Filling in those forms is never fun and I always end up feeling a bit humiliated at having to describe everything in such graphic detail.
Cranky - well done on all that cooking.. 'an empty place in his tum' made me laugh
Rosyred - hope you had a nice time with your aunt and uncle, I am sure they appreciated the visit.
Purple - sounds like you were really busy over the weekend, well done you!
Heavenleigh - Oh honey.. Are you applying for all the benefits you are due? If you need advice on what is out there I am sure the families board can help. I think you are doing a great job.

Am really enjoying my new cook book - Jane Fearnley-Whittingstalls Ministry of Food. Lots of great recipes, really straightforward ingredients and meal plans etc. Cheapest place I found online too. I spent hours over the weekend reading it. A new favourite definitely.
Another hospital appt today but only a 30min drive each way so a lot less painful!
Breakfast today is Weetabix and bananas and lunch will be HM Hummus on HM bread with salad. Dinner will be a potato bake with bacon bits and a cheese sauce, probably served with green beans and broccoli. Inspired by Kassaw, I might make a chocolate trifle today too.
I hope everyone's week starts well, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love, light and
for all.
for all.

Day off but plenty to do. I bought a log burner at the weekend and so have to install that, which means making the hearth larger... complicated and messy, but should give me more heat this week when the temps gets colder.
Ran out of heating oil :eek:Boiler juice saved me money, but the delivery time can be slow. I will have to call and beg today.
Party went well, still got beer left over. Must be drunk as it's a poly keg and will go off. any takers? Skinners Betty Stoggs from Truro.
Trying to go the whole day without knowing who won the Superbowl... Could be hard as 5 live are bound to announce it.... I have it on SKY plus and want to see it later.
Cheers folks.....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Morning all
Sorry not posted for a while.
Determined to turn over a new leaf & be more organised & a lot more OS.
Was up early this morning. Was how my gran used to do things. Up before the family. So I've got the washing on & dusted/dewebed & cleaned the sofas.
Will get the children in in a moment.
Need to make some cakes later for the lunch boxes.
Cooked a chicken yesterday for the children to eat this week (DH is away again) Made stock from the bones once I'd stripped it.
Got weigh in this morning at SW. Won;t have lost anything this week though. I only have 6lbs to go so I need to get back on the plan properly.
Sorry to hear about your FiL PP.
Belated birthday wishes JackieO
Have a good day all
(((hugs))) to those in need.

Cold here this morning, I have lots to do today, I need to have a hoover through, at least two loads to do in the wm.
Roast pork for dinner today, we ended up having pasta yesterday, as we had a late lunch, and were not very hungry. Off to look at some wallpaper later for dd's bedroom, I dont really like wallpaper but dd wants it on one wall, so will have a browse today.
I need to do an online shop too, and clean the kitchen and bathroom.

Morning all
Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.
Dark and cold this moring. Monday morning again already, where do the weekends go? Had another productive but quiet one, OH worked on Sat am so managed to get the uniforms dried and then ironed ready for today, then decluttered the porch and sorted OH's paperwork into a box - all looks much better except he says he can't find anything - to my reply "it's all in the box"!
I spent Saturday afternoon baking/cooking for pack-ups etc, and made 1 dozen mince pies, lemon curd tarts, large choc sponge, and choc chip cookies. Was a bit put out though when my DS2 who is 9 years old and always getting his words mixed up asked if he could have a "lemon turd"!!?? - is my cooking that bad!!
Have done a menu plan but need to look at it again as need to decide on food for the end of the week. I'm working just this week then have a week's annual leave whilst the boys are on half term next week - am looking forward to some time off.
Need to go and go ready for work now.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all

Busy day for us today, so no time for OS really.
Girls have fencing and kickboxing again today. We also have to go birthday shopping for DD, so I have planned for us to eat out tonight rather than cooking as it will save time.
I didn't sleep much last night, so have started the day feeling very tired, which is typical really when there's lots to be done!
Heavenleigh, sorry to hear what you're going through. It is hard to begin with, until you adapt and then it will become easier. I know it may not feel like it at the moment, but you will get there. One day at a time is the best advice really.
Do check that you are receiving all benefits though and then perhaps sit down and look at where all the money is going to each week / month, to see if you can cut back / cut out stuff, so there's enough to cover the important stuff. (((HUGS))).
Aplaceinthesun, I think that we all do what we think is right with our children, yet, no matter what it is, guilt will often creep into it. I wish I had never sent my children to school, I really do, and then, when I knew there were problems, I wish I had pulled them out sooner, but we try to do what we feel will be the best thing. I guess I'm trying to say that you can't get by on guilt.
Good luck today with the school and I hope your DD is happy to go in again. There's not long now and they break up this week I believe, so plenty of time for her to relax and enjoy her anime
The butter crunch biscuits recipe is as follows:
175g.6oz. butter
125g./4oz. castor sugar
10ml./2 teaspoons finely grated lemon rind [I missed this out]
225g./8oz. flour
1.25ml./1/4 teaspoon salt
30ml./ 2 tablesppons sugar
Cream the butter, castor sugar and lemon rind together until fluffy. Gradually sift in the flour and salt, beating until a stiff dough is formed.
Roll into two long sausage shapes. Cut each sausage into slices. Dip the slices into the sugar and place on well greased baking sheets.
Put into the oven pre-heated to moderate (180 C/350 F or gas mark 4) and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Makes about 30 biscuits.
(Taken from 1000 recipe cook book).
They didn't last long, especially once DDs friends arrived
MSD, hope you get on ok at the hospital today
Have a good day all. I will try and catch up later xxxThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

Morning All,
Well another weekend flies by.
I have a busy day today. Some Amazon and ebay Sales to post this morning.
Then working on DH new website, need to get that finished.
Made 2 loads of choc chip cookies this weekend and another batch to make on Thursday as a present for DB birthday. Not sure how to wrap them yet need to think about that one cos they need to be airtight really although never last long enough to go stale in our house:D
DH has requested a cherry cake so that's this afternoons job whilst listening to Radio 4's play at 2.30. Also need to do something with pork chops for tea, not sure what yet.
Also need to think about weight loss as it has been on the back burner for the last couple of weeks and I definitely need to make it more of a priority.
After all that I may go and have a lie down!!
Have a lovely day everyone.Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
