I have just found a whole book on Google books which you can either read online (there are 136 pages but the print is quite small and not many paragraphs!), or download as a pdf file to read at your leisure.
It's called the American Frugal Housewife but it's from the early 1800's so will def be oldstyle moneysaving!
I like the title that says dedicated to those who are not ashamed of economy.

Just scroll down the page to read the book or download it by clicking the download arrow on the right of the page.

Have just downloaded that SB44....read a bit first and I imagine that there will be a few smiles to be had from the book!
Did you notice that it said that there is another book by the same name, suited to UK, which is why they prefixed "American"...will have a look later for that one.

I haven't time to read any now, just downloading to read during the week.
I dread to think what will be in the medical one!

Just found one on cooking from the early 1800's which may be of interest and there are 455 pages to browse through.
The Complete Econmical Cook and Frugal Housewife, published in 1837 by Mrs Mary Holland Professed Cook.
I wonder if she made the original Hollands Pies?
