Anyone got an old Sainsbury High Fibre Recipe Book?
Hi all I bought this book about 20 years ago and cooked a recipe out of it for prawn and cashew pilaf, which was delicious. I would love to make it again but cannot find the book anywhere and Sainsbury's can't help (according to Customer Services they don't archive their recipe books ) If anyone has the book and could…

Home Brew: Elderflower Mock Beer - Cheap, Easy, No-Kit Required
Hi There, I’m only a member here for the GIOL board but I saw this thread and thought I’d share my mock beer recipe with you. It’s largely based on a recipe in an old brewing book I used to have. It’s on my mind as I’m making my yearly brew now. This is very easy, much easier than those kits, totally natural and really…

Help! Have free but maybe gone off chinese tea and 'black fungus'?!
I don't usually buy oriental produce but I've got my hands on some free stuff and I'm wondering if it's a use or chuck jobby. Basically I have 8 plastic/ metal lines tins with ring top pulls and it looks like inside each one there's 8 vacume packed sachets of tea in that weird plastic metal type wrapping. All the…

JML Clothes dryer - any good?
I have seen one of these on offer in Makro. I would dearly love one, and it may mean I can get a washer rather than a washer dryer which would be not only cheaper but likely to last longer. But I don't want to buy a pig in a poke. When it is summer and the building works are not so vigorous I can line dry, and I do have an…

Cauldron veggie sausages - white stuff growing?
Hi My freezer section desperately needs defrosting and as such my fridge isn't working brilliantly. I've just pulled out a packet of Cauldron vegetarian sausages that have not been opened, however I can see a few spots of white fluffy stuff on them. I assume this is mould (they're dated use by 29th June, however as the…

DD's got a new brace... what to feed her??
Hi lovely Old Stylers, I've posted this in family/health too, I hope that's ok? I need some help. My DD1 has just been fitted with a brace for the first time. It's a removable one, but she has to leave in all the time. I'm really unsure about the whole braces thing, it's our first experience of it. She's getting stomach…

Smelly suitcase

World War II sewing crisis
Does anyone know where I can find a basic evacuee style dress patternplease? DD is having a WW2 day on Tuesday:eek: and I forgot:o. I've been trying to find a cheapy dress but can't find anything suitable, at a price I'm prepared to pay. In true Old Style manner I managed to find some pillowcases (reduced price too!) in a…

How to get ingrained stains off old bathtub?
Our house was built in the 1950s, and I think it still has the original bathtub. It's a white tub, but unfortunately it is very stained (was like that when we moved in), and looks horribly grubby even just after being cleaned. I've tried using various bathroom cleaner sprays, as well as bleach, but they don't make much of…

How do you get rid of the plastic taste?
I recently bought a new Brita filter jug that came with 2 resuable plastic bottles. I washed them before I used them but when I used them the water tasted really plasticy. I have tried soaking them in water, bicarb & water & bicarb & lime juice (didn't have lemon!) and it still tastes funny. Is there anything that will get…

silly question? - cheap sugar?
Have been looking into making lots of jam for the storecupboard to keep us going over the winter, however between the price of fruit and the price of sugar sometimes I wonder if the economics are worth it! I have shopped around for sugar and the prices vary from 93p in Mr T's, to 68p in Poundstretchers for 1kg granulated…

How to measure liquids?
Help! I have a recipe that calls for 3 fl oz of liquid, I don't have anything to measure fluid ounces with and have no idea what one looks like so cannot 'eyeball' it. Does anyone know a conversion of fl oz to either spoons or cups? Thanks :)
