Does anyone know where I can find a basic evacuee style dress patternplease? DD is having a WW2 day on Tuesday:eek: and I forgot:o.
I've been trying to find a cheapy dress but can't find anything suitable, at a price I'm prepared to pay. In true Old Style manner I managed to find some pillowcases (reduced price too!) in a suitable fabric and I'm sure there will be plenty of fabric. I have elastic so a gathered skirt would be possible if I can't do the dress.
I'm reasonably competent with a sewing machine.
Any other ideas would be very gratefully received.
TIA

Just a basic school type dress would do I would think. Just a blouse pattern which you can make longer. I was at school in the 50s and we had a red and white gingham school dress or skirt with a white blouse. I dont think the fashion had changed much since the 40s.
Or what about a skirt with a blouse and grey cardigan. My mother used to say that the worst thing about the war (apart ftrom not knowing if you were going to survive was the lack of colour. Every thing was grey or brown.0 -

Thank you for the ideas sairy.
I've managed to convert the pillowcase into an elasticated waist skirt. I'm rather proud of myself. I did consider the gingham school type dress, but my DD is rather skinny and long legged:rolleyes:. Funnily enough the pillowcase is kind of beige floral! DD has a brown cardigan - probably a bit fashionable, but I'm not knitting her one:rotfl:- and she has a white school blouse.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
