How do you get rid of the plastic taste?

I recently bought a new Brita filter jug that came with 2 resuable plastic bottles. I washed them before I used them but when I used them the water tasted really plasticy. I have tried soaking them in water, bicarb & water & bicarb & lime juice (didn't have lemon!) and it still tastes funny. Is there anything that will get rid of it??

The thing I would be concerned about here is that if the water tastes "plastic-y" - then it probably IS plastic-y - as in plastic is leaching into the water in the bottle...and then heading down into the stomach of the consumer...:eek:

I know what you mean - hence I have just sent off for a stainless steel reusable water bottle (having only been able to find plastic and aluminium ones locally). So - I think its www. ethicalsuperstore dot com (sorree couldnt give the link properly - as filter came up with exclamation marks when I tried - so take out the spaces and type a full stop instead of the "dot") I'm waiting to receive my bottle from if my memory serves me aright.

I had some plastic food containers that were like that when new. I filled them with water and a few drops each of vinegar and left them to set overnight and then washed. Worked with those . . . . .
