An Original Old-Styler
Hello everyone, I don't normally post over here on the OS Board, but pop over for inspiration every once in a while. This article is about my Grandmother back home in Canada. When I was a child, people often made fun of Rose and her ways but life often comes full circle doesn't it? I hope you enjoy it!…

please can someone start me off? £50 weekly food shop - healthy/low fat
Hi there. I've been made redundant a couple of weeks ago and so we need to budget properly. We've been really bad about it before now and I know we waste a lot and really overspend because we don't plan but just buy on a whim and it's based on a lot of ready-meals (I know, kerchingg). If we can do our shop for, say,…

Dates
Today I bought 9 x 200g boxes of dates from the local greengrocer (3 for £1). They are in those little trays with a plastic "stick" to pick them out - I'm sure you know what I mean . Anyway, I want to transfer them all into a zippy bag for ease of storing and I was thinking of rolling them in something first to…

Gin & Cointreau - what can I do with them?
Hi I have been sorting through my cupboards and have found some gin and cointreau. I don't really drink either of them on their own though. I made some apple and blackberry vodka with some vodka I found a few weeks ago. What can I do with them? Either together or separately - I don't mind whether it is in cooking or an…

Cakes for beginners!
I've never been the baking sort - I was completely put off at school. My eldest two nearly died from shock when I made a Christmas cake this year - but I followed the recipe to the letter and surprised myself to be honest! I have 2.5yr old daughter and she loves cooking! So far I've completely cheated and bought packet…

I think dp has got it!
I'm at work, and dp hasn't got much work on (roofer) so is at home. He normally does the shopping, but I was talking to him last about OS and he didn't seem that enthusiastic. Said he'd already cut the shopping bill down. Anyway, today he's been to our local butchers for the first time and bought some meat. He got 8 large…

Colour in my jeans running
Didn't really know the appropriate place to post this. I bought some cheap black jeans from New Look, maybe October time last year, I wore them say twice a week for 6 weeks, and the colour was still running in the wash, and I constantly had black legs. I put them away hoping to find the reciept to take them back but no…

Re-freezing food
I don't know if I'm in the right place or even the right forum but I wondered if anyone knows what the problem is with re-freezing food? I made some Bolognese sauce a while ago and froze it. I defrosted it in the fridge but had to go away so put it back in the freezer. I'm now worried that I'll give someone food poisoning…

Breadmaker help please - first time I have used it, not working?
I was freecycled a HInari breadmaker today, cleaned it all up and used a packet mix for my first attempt, well it rose well (hit the glass bit you look in), but it never cooked at all, the said loaf is in the oven as we speak. Is it broken? Or could it be that it rose too high? Thanks
