Frozen Salmon Fillets

Options
Hi

Just waded through lots of info on salmon fillets but to no avail.

I need to know if I can cook salmon fillets from frozen and if so, what would be the best way / temp etc? Or should I defrost them first?

I'm planning to serve with creamy dil sauce and asparagus or green beans.

Thanks

M

I'd defrost first - in fact I have a fillet defrosting for tonights tea as we speak.

You can cook them from frozen if you cook them stright through. My mom does hers in themicrowave.
I prefer to defrost them fist, they don't take long.
Sounds nice the way you're doing them, I marinaded mine in green pesto the other day then quick fried them. Served with pasta in Neopolitan sauce, yummy.

What's the best way to defrost them? can they be 'forced' :D (visions of hairdryer coming into play, here :)) By say placing in a bag in warm water?

I was very lucky in asda yesterday with whoopsed Youngs fillets ( 2x200g for 84p) Of course they had yesterday's date on so I separated and froze asap. Now I want one for tea

    cheers

No, salmon is the worst thing to force (salmonella?) just put them on a plate in a cool place.

    Hahaha :D like that.

Salmonella's named after Daniel Elmer Salmon, more likely to contract listeria I think. Will take a thinnish fillet out and go to the pub for one if it looks to be taking it's time :) - must remember to hide it from the cats or else I'll be back to square 1!

    Thanks!

I wouldn't cook from frozen personally they don't usually take long to defrost though. Just reminded me I have 6 salmon fillets in freezer but can't stand smell of them cause I have morning sickness. How long can I keep them for?

  • I always cook mine from frozen, wrap individually in foil and put on baking tray in oven for around 30 mins, lovely ;)

  • I prefer to defrost first as I think it helps maintain some moistness in the fillet. Have tried cooking from frozen and felt that the fillet was quite firm.

Thats how I do mine. With a nob of butter.

The foil wrap keeps the moisture in a treat. Yum.
