Re-freezing food

I don't know if I'm in the right place or even the right forum but I wondered if anyone knows what the problem is with re-freezing food?
I made some Bolognese sauce a while ago and froze it. I defrosted it in the fridge but had to go away so put it back in the freezer. I'm now worried that I'll give someone food poisoning if I defrost it again and use it!
It is proper home made sauce so I'm loathed to throw it away.

Hello Janetew
I'll move your thread to the 'Old Style' board, where the food experts will see it.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. The food standards agency and people of that nature will advice not to refreeze. The advice not to refreeze is based on the fact that the cooling down bit (from first cooking and if reheated and cooled again allows fast breeding of bacteria). Freezing only suspends the bacterias life cycle it doesn't kill it. However ensuring that it is really hot when finally reheated should kill anything. It is up to you but I personally would risk it, but then I eat food past the sell by date as well lol. Never been sick yet.
The only thing is if pregnant or any young kids it may be more of a risk eating food like this.
I would have been more worried if the meal had been warmed and cooled twice.
Good luck

I wouldn't. I DID get food poisoning from something that had been refrozen - and was properly heated through. It wasn't the nicest experience of my life, believe me.
It really isn't worth the risk. You may be lucky, but if you're not, you'll be ill for days, if not weeks.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
