Gin & Cointreau - what can I do with them?

Hi
I have been sorting through my cupboards and have found some gin and cointreau. I don't really drink either of them on their own though.
I made some apple and blackberry vodka with some vodka I found a few weeks ago.
What can I do with them? Either together or separately - I don't mind whether it is in cooking or an infused alcohol. Am open to suggestions
Thanks

Are they unopened?
As if so you could wrap them up and give them as gifts?0 -
Ok, you can do the apple and blackberry vodka thing with the gin too. I use damsons but obviously there aren't going to be any of those around till September but the gin won't go off;)
Cointreau is great in orangey dessets-crepes suzette springs to mind. It is fab in a rich fruitcake instead of brandy. It would also go brilliantly with anything chocolatey-mousse, rich chocolate cake, truffles.0 -
Am I the only one who thought you could get rip roaringly drunk with the gin and cointreau?:rotfl:
Sorry absolutely no help whatsoever but just needed to say it:o
On a more sensible note the cointreau could be used for fruit salads and chocolate mousses
The gin could be flavoured with fruits to make nice presents for friends

The only thing I know of is Cointreau ice cream (just don't use too much or it won't set)
Hope you enjoy them

Hi lbt,
Even if they are opened you could probably keep both indefinitely. I have made sloe gin, raspberry gin and peach gin this year.
The recipe I used for the raspberry gin is:
1 bottle gin
450g fruit
350g sugar
Add all ingredients to a bottle...I used a large kilner jar. Give it a good stir and then stir daily until all the sugar is dissolved. Leave as long as you like to let the taste mature, then strain through muslin and bottle.
There are more recipes on these threads:
make your own christmas booze!!

Blaeberry Gin?
flavoured vodka

Hi Thriftlady, I quite like the idea of blackberry and apple gin but I only made that to use up some fruit I found in the freezer so I'll have to see if I can get a small batch of them.
Ravylesley, you are funny :rotfl: . I am very good at getting rip roaring drunk but to be honest I favour wine, beer, baileys .... oooops, I could go on but it might give everyone a bad impression of me.
I wonder what other fruits would work as a flavouring for gin??
Pink, I love the sound of your raspberry gin. What size bottle of gin did you use? I will have to adapt the quantities because the bottle is already open.
I bought some miniature wine bottles today so that I can strain my apple and blackberry vodka - the fruit has only been in the vodka for three weeks but the flavour is really good already - you can really taste both fruits. I know you are meant to leave fruit flavoured vodkas to mature for 18 months but I know I will be lucky if I get to the end of the weekend without drinking some!!!!
Thanks everyone - hope you are enjoying the sunshine :T0 -
I love cointreau, at xmas time I have it mixed with cranberry juice, have also had it with fanta, (I was using it up honest.) In summer pour it over ice, for a longer drink add lemonade or bitter lemon. I'm sure you can add it to cream and other desert dishes. Enjoy.

I cry if I drink ginWhen you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0
