Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 20th Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS friends!
Was hoping Tristan might log on, so am up waiting. Can't help but worry.
ISOM - hope you feel better soon honey.
Noahspennilessmummy - what sad news for your brother and SIL, they must be devastated
Cookie - welcome to the thread hon and I do hope you will post more often. I was welcomed immediately when I joined but it took a week or so before I began to get to know everyone properly.
Bargainbird - how is the little one doing?
Moggins - thinking of you honey, hope all is well.
Csarina - beautiful quilt honey, I am very impressed
Sunnygirl - still sending positive thoughts hon
Silvercharming - I loved reading your posts, they were fascinating!
Squiggly hon -
Crunchy topping for Muffins:
1 1/2 level teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 oz (75 g) self-raising flour
1 oz (25 g) butter, at room temperature
3 oz (75 g) demerara sugar
Dinner will be defrosted turkey from Christmas with mash, sprouts and carrots. I know I could create all sorts of things with it but I just LOVE roast turkey as it is, so I rarely cook with it!
I hope everyone has a really good day today. Warm gentle hugs to those who need them.

1 oz (25 g) butter, at room temperature
3 oz (75 g) demerara sugar
- Once you have filled your muffin tin or papers with your mix, place the flour, cinnamon and butter in a bowl and and rub the butter in until crumbly.
- Then add the sugar and mix well. It should look a little like a crumble.
- Finally, sprinkle in approx 1 tablespoon of cold water, so that you get sticky crumble (if that makes sense). Anyway, what I then do is pick up the wet blobs and drop it on the top of the muffin mixture til it's covered. (Doesn't that sound attractive!! :rotfl: ) If I have some left at the end I just put a bit more on!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Hi MSD - hope Tristan has logged in by now.
I didn't get time to come on here at all yesterday. DH was home for most of the day and we were sorting out paperwork - never an easy job.
I haven't even had time to catch up on everyone's news so I hope I haven't missed any Happy Birthdays or anything like that. Lots of (((hugs))) to all in need.
The weather yesterday was dull, dull, dull with some irritating light rain, so I hope today's better than that!
Today I need to do some food shopping so I will try and get out early for that. I like the way they say inflation is falling but I don't find that at all. Everything still seems to be going up. I got annoyed in Sainsbury's the other day - I don't go in there often because I don't like our local one - but their cheap sandwich bags have gone up by 5p a pack, from 49p to 54p which is a lot more than the rate of inflation. I noticed a few other things that had gone up, too, so I shan't be going in there again, if I can help it. I still like their basics chocolate, though - that's good value!
Well, I suppose it's a bit early to start on the housework so I shall have to spend more time wandering around on here. I have decided on dinner tonight, though; chicken and leek casserole followed by plum crumble.
See you later.

Just read the end of last night's thread and wanted to send (((hugs))) to you and your family, Sunnygirl, and a very Happy but belated Birthday to Ravelsley.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Morning. Could not get on due to site maintainance.
I agree supermarket prices are rising. I have no idea why dog food went from £1.79 a pack of 6 to £2.70 over night. Bread is still over £1 a loaf when flour prices have come down considerably as well as oil for transport etc. I am sure everyone is making a good proffit at the moment in case there are tougher times ahead.
All is well here. Spent the afternoon over in Newquay in the sun. Loads of people in the sea, mainly surfers in wetsuits, but still cold no doubt.
Tea was a mixture of BBQ ribs and dips and wedges etc, seemed like a good idea, but totally unhealthy. OH wants to drag me off to view houses today... hmmmmmm.
Cheers folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning Me lovelies
Many thanks to everyone for the kind birthday wishes yesterday.I had a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed it.Still got loads of birthday cake left if anyone wants a piece:D
Its Friday and usually thats a quiet day but with it being half term and me being out and about amusing the kids all week my house resembles a gorillas nest so that needs some serious attention.I need to vacuum, dust and tidy throughout and somehow do a balancing act to replace the bulb that has gone at the highest point on the stairs.I might just get hubby to do it when he gets up,he was on lates yesterday so not in work till lunchtime.
I need to get the BM on later as the bread situation is so dire I resorted to a bought loaf:eek: .I've also got a pile of ironing that is higher than the pile of washing to deal with:mad:
I'd love to get some crocheting or patchwork done today but I got some lovely new books for my birthday that are crying out to me and I got some new cookery books that I want to try out.Oh decisions decisions what should I do?
MSD-Hope Tristan gets in touch soon to put your mind at ease
Sunnygirl-Didnt catch up with the end of yesterdays daily but hope your Dad improved yesterday and continues to do so

Good morning all :hello:
Thank you for the lovely welcome yesterday.
My OH works a late shift on a Friday so I need to make the main meal of the day at lunchtime so it will be chilli or spag bol as I am defrosting some mince and I'll make me and my dd a nice pot of soup for tea tonight. I need to use up some celery before it goes bendy so maybe celery soup if I can find a good recipe.
I need to run a couple of errands this morning but other than that it will be a nice quiet day in the cookie household.... not like yesterday when I locked dd and myself out of the house  I was just going to take her to the park and as soon as I pulled the door shut I realised what I had done. I hadn't taken my phone with me either so I had to use a grotty phonebox to call my MIL who had to make a 35 mile round trip to rescue usIt is a good thing I had some money on me to make the call. We sat in the garden singing nursery rhymes and eating a few jelly babies so it worked out ok
Some of you were talking about that Amish programe that was on...I really enjoyed it but their daughter having leukaemia had me in tears. I have ordered a book from amazon called "plain and simple: one woman's journey to the Amish" it had great reviews and is about a normal working mother in america who wanted to live a more simple life so lived with them for a while and the book is about what she learned. It is coming from the US though so could take 20 days to arrive.
Have a good day all xx0 -

Morning :hello:
Morrison's have white sliced bread at 49p per loaf, it's either Stephenson or Newtown (it changes week to week).
I've made some Easter cards - I've really struggled with them. I'm rubbish with Easter and sympathy cards, they're the two I'm bad at. I'll take them to the shop anyway and hope the woman likes them :undecided
I couldn't get hold of my mum this week, so it's shopping with mr tru again. I'm dreading it
So apart from shopping, I've planned nothing today. Mr tru changes anything I plan, he's a spur-of-the moment type person and it drives me insane.Bulletproof0 -

Morning all
LOL Christabell, sweet & sour sofa, sounds yummy.
DD is managing fine & I'm off to work soon.
Hugs to Sunnyday, Moggings, Diva, PP, Sybil & Smokey.
Work should be fun, my room has been stripped to fit new doors & carpets, I want it put back in a way that suits me & theway I work, the Bursar says it has to go back the way it was and has given the caretakers strict instructions to that effect!!! Let battle commence.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester
