OS Daily Thread - Saturday 21st February

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 21st Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS friends!

Still no Tristan though he may log on today I guess. I hope so. And I just want to say thank you to all of you who are still praying and sending him positive thoughts, I really do appreciate it more than you know.

Squiggly - Glad you liked the crumble topping. And congrats on the 3rd star! I think we have to wait til 1, 500 posts for the fourth which seems a longggg way away.
Essexgirl - I grew some garlic chives from seed last summer. I put about 20 into a large pot and about 1/3 came up but we were snipping them and eating them for weeks which was great. Am hoping they will reappear this summer.
PenPin - hope you are feeling better
Moggins and Sybil - Sooo glad you are both back
kazonline - Welcome back! Have to say I have never known the Daily to stretch to 10 pages, we seem to average about 5 these days!
Silvercharming - I don't 'do' facebok or 'twitter' or anything like that. I post here and use MSN Messenger if anyone adds me and that is more than enough for me!
Jimmi - welcome2.gifto the thread hon! Funnily enough I posted my Rock cake recipe just recently, aren't they delicious lil things?
Anniestar - You looked so lovely! You were so dignified and that dress was gorgeous.
Oh morwenna - I am so sad for you and the children. Will pray for you all - huge hugs to you.

We bought an oven thermometer (from Amazon with a voucher I won for writing reviews) as I had suspicions my oven was running a tad hot - everything seems to cook much faster than it should! Anyway, we discovered that it is running about 25 - 30 degrees hotter than it should be! PLUS even if you set it lower to compensate, within about 10 mins of something being in the oven, the temperature has gone up by 20 to 30 degrees!

I just set the BM going so when my OH finally gets up he can have fresh bread. We have some bacon pieces to use up and so I think we will have bacon and scrambled egg on toast for lunch. We recently found a local butcher that puts together cooking bacon bits that are cheaper than the supermarkets equivilant. When we cleaned out the fridge I found lots of jars of jams and marmalade I had forgotten about. Guess we need to eat more toast!

I hope you all have a great start to the weekend. Warm gentle hugs to those who need or want them.

with love and light

Morning MSD and all who follow

I'm up bright and early this morning due to a snoring hubby:mad: But hey I suppose it makes a change from me snoring:rotfl:

Got a massive pile of ironing to tackle in a mo.But gotta have my first brew of the day first;)

When the kids get up I've the downstairs windows to clean. They are absolutely hanging and as the window cleaner cleaned the outsides yesterday they look even worse!:o

Off into town in a bit to have my usual Saturday Potter. Will probably nip into Asda on the way back to get a couple of chickens and some fairy liquid that they alledgedly have in cheap.I'm betting by the time I get there they will have all gone:D

Hubby is on a mid today so wont be home till gone 7pm so just me and the kids for tea so I reckon its a good excuse for Pizza!I've got two ys ones in the freezer that I want rid of and I'll make some Potato Wedges and salad to go with them.Apple Crumble and custard for pud I think

PP-Havent noticed any posts by you lately are you ok??

MSD-You and I both know he'll bein touch as soon as he is able to so just hang on in there.Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you that its today though

Morwenna-I'm sorry for your loss it really must be devastating for you and the kids

Sybil-Having had five kids I've realised that the little devils get into everything and nothing and I mean nothing is toddler proof.I once managed to trap my toddlers fingers in the car door:eek: Talk about bad mother stripes the poor little petal was still holding onto the door frame as she was getting out of the car when I shut the door.I cant tell you how bad I felt about that but thankfully it was just bruising but I still always check that fingers and other appendages are out before I shut the door:o

    Morning peeps

i just can`t seem to sleep lately, i woke up at 5 and i`ve not been back to sleep so i thought that i may as well start the day early.

The breadmaker has finished and been emptied, so has the washing machine and dishwasher. Both houndies and the monster cat decided to keep me company so they have all been fed too. It`s a little early for the vacuum cleaner so i shall leave that until tomorrow.

This weeks meal planner is now finished and i`ve written the shopping list around that. I must find all my reciepts and total them up for the GC, i have a feeling that we`ve gone over our total this month but hopefully not by very much. I can see a small amount of light through the blinds so in an hour or so should be able to tell what kind of a day we shall be having weatherwise - hope it`s a mild one.
I can hear MrS moving around upstairs so i shall hop off and put the kettle back on, matbe scrambled eggs on toast too :D

Have a good day everyone, i shall catch up later.

    SD
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

So nice to see a post from you Smokey.
Sybil, hope LB's fingers are ok, it reminds me of when we'd just moved into an old 2 up 2 down, the loo was very high & the seat oldfashioned & heavy. DS was 4ish & just starting to stand to go to the loo, rather than sitting on it. Because the loo was so high he could only drape his willy over the edge of the loo, all of a sudden there was a bang & a scream. I rushed to the loo, praying please let it be his fingers. Oh boy he'll love me for sharing this, lol.
I need to do some catching up today, I usually get loads done during half term as I only work part time, but having been at DD's for most of the week I'm way behind.
If I do manage anything OS, I'll be sure to come back & post.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone :D

It's been a busy week in the apple_mint household and I haven't had much time to log on to MSE. I hope to rectify that this weekend ;)

I know that times are hard for many of us so I want to give everyone a group (((hug))) ... sometimes we just need one.

On the upside, we are going to Costco today. I'm going to restock on herbs and get some cheese to freeze. Also have a meander and try to keep my twitchy spending fingers in my pockets.

The big batch cooking of soup worked very well last week, I'm going to batch cook another flavour today so that my stash never gets below two weeks worth. I'm going to try to do the same with the Italian flat bread and the muffins. It is really handy being able to pull all the elements of our packed lunches out of the freezer in a couple of minutes. I just add portions of fruit and then I'm done.

It will be poached eggs on toast for lunch. I haven't decided on dinner. The last two nights we have had cheapy and (almost) vegetarian meals in order to stretch the meat supplies in the freezer. Last night was mushroom risotto (lovely) and the night before a comination of cooked cauliflower (and the green leaves) and pasta, with bacon bits, mushrooms and leeks stirred in. A cheese sauce made from cheapy soft cheese and milk and topped off with breadcrumbs and grated cheese - then in the oven for 20 minutes to brown. Delicious :D

It may just be sausages ... toad in the hole? sausage casserole? sausage and mash? sausage and spicy potato wedges? Decisions. Decisions. Veggies will either be broccoli or savoy cabbage and some carrots. OH likes whatever I give him :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

    Morning.

Another average weather day in store. Not sure what we are all doing today. I feel like somthing interesting for tea as I have been eating garbage for days it seems as it's quick and easy. Went to Falmouth yesterday on the train for a wander about in the sun. 2 adult and 3 kids for £9 return is not too bad is it? 30 miles each way and a local rail card where the kids go for £1. There seemed to be a lot of shops shut or for sale or closing, may be times are getting hard?
Our friends 60's band were playing in a pub last night, so went to see them and have a few pints, nice evening and raised a few quid for charity.
I think I will get the paper and walk the dog.

  • Morning all,

MSD, at least your suspicions are confirmed so you can set the over lower to start off with now. Irritating though...
Sunnyday, I must meal-plan as well, seem to have lost the habit of that recently...Though like Apple-Mint, I will be doing something with sausages tonight :)
Hester, my eyes are watering....!!!! Who won in the battle of deciding which way round your room was put back - hopefully you did as you're the person needing to use it...

Got a couple of those £2 chickens in Asda last night, so will cook one tomorrow & freeze the other. Will be making the muffins today as it's been a hectic couple of days....
Also Asda have some bargain prices on duvets - I got youngest DD a 13.5 tog single one for £6 and went back to get myself a double for just over £7. That's not the smartprice ones, but the George range. They're all puffy & lovely. I have a feather duvet which I adore, but despite much shaking it the feathers all clump up into the corners & it has gone all flat...So I was all toasty & warm under new one last night.

Bath waste pipe now fixed (or rather cleaned out of the most gruesome gooey clump of gunk mixed with 3 DD's very long hair...). I got one of those plug colanders but have realised they will have to take the plug out & pop that straight on every time the bath is used, as you can't have both at the same time...?! It's probably more important to make sure it's there when they shower & are washing their hair though.

(((((((hugs)))))))) for all those having tough times.
    xx

Morning Everyone - Welcome Newbies :hello:- Hi Oldies  :rotfl:

    :grouphug: Morwenna & kids :grouphug:

Didn't get round to posting yesterday, felt a little lethargic (sp) after the late night out, which was good, and the main bit of OS was cooking tea, made a BBQ sauce to go with chicken, and rice with carrots, peas & ham. Was going to try to make egg fried rice, but found I needed seseme oil, which I did not have, (basic store cupboard growing:eek: ) will pick some up next time shopping. I searched the BBQ sauce thread I found on here, and modified it slightly, as we not like things hot, and onions are not on our ingredients list ever they upset me, garlic I am trying to start using by using garlic granules in minute quantities, but slowing increasing.:o :o . With no DW out here, think DH may be getting a little fed up with the extra dishes when making sauces, etc., anyway tonight we are out again this time to a 50th WA celebration for the couple behind us here, so will probably be beans & egg on toast at lunchtime as there is a buffet tonight.

Was just going to get ready to watch Anniestar, when our friends and neighbours (both here an in the UK) dragged us out "kicking and screaming" to a quiz:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: . We came second, and got a bottle of wine, we got one last week on our own for coming last:rolleyes: . If we hadn't not heard one question we would have been joint first, but hey ho! Hopefully Silvercharming can send me a copy whe we get back to the UK, after two late nights in a row, may have to give in to a siesta this afternoon.:D :D

Today is market day for fresh stuff, put some washing on, and other than that not a lot.

:grouphug: to all who'd like one.

Smoky - you may :rotfl: , but I think there was more than a little truth in your feelings. Nice to know you're feeling young though!

Pen-pin, Jackie-0 hope you have had a good break with your families, and are back here soon to tell us all about it.

    Morning all! :hello:

I had been hoping for a lie in but the cat had other ideas  So here I am!

Morwenna and kids :grouphug: I'm thinking of you at this awful time xxx

Anyone else who wants a copy of Annie's superstar performance, PM me and I'll run you off a copy!

Today is a day filled with Avon work for me - sorting out deliveries for people and taking book out. The books are going to the 'posh' area today, so it takes loads longer to put them out 'cos everyone has huge driveways to be walked down! Most inconsiderate of them :rotfl:

Dave phoned me last night to say he'd been to a pub auction and had bought me something 'mental' and that I'd be really impressed. He was slightly "cheerful" () when he said this so I'm a little worried what it is :rotfl: I do hope he hasn't spent all the housekeeping on it :o

Diva - I have the same problem with my fridge! I borrowed my friend's fridge thermometer and it's apparently -3 celcius in there! But it doesn't matter if I turn the fridge up or down, it's always -3! I keep meaning to ask on the in my house board if anyone has any ideas. Oh well, at least everything is cold in there I suppose

Hope everyone has a good day

    Kerry xxx
  • Good Morning All

Silvercharming - let us know what it is when you get it.

The sun is shining here at the moment and looks lovely out there - soo cant wait for spring.

DS has had a friend sleep over so will sort them some breakfast in a min, DD is at a sleepover tonight which means she will be devil daughter tomorrow, its for her friends birthday so couldnt say no.

This morning I need to go out and get a card for said birthday which I only found out about last night, I do have a stock of cards here but none for teenagers. Apart from that think will be pottering around the house and ironing. Kids would like to go to the pictures but I really dont fancy it today but we will see.

No idea what is for dinner tonight, menu plans always seem to go out the window on school holidays. So will have a route around the freezers, also will put some bread on now for some brunch later.

Thats it for now, have a lovely Saturday.
