I didn't think bread was fattening?
I've read many posts, especially on the bread making threads where many people say that they don't eat too much of their bread because they put on weight or worry about weight gain. I didn't think bread was fattening  and I eat quite a bit of it and it doesn't make any difference to me. I just thought bread was a…

Increase in portion sizes?
Has anyone else noticed this? I have a selection of BeRo books dating from the 1970s onwards and in the first one I have -the weight of one egg for a sponge pudding feeds 4. In later ones the weight of 2 eggs feeds 4-6. This could be the equivalent of doubling a portion size. In the same vein I have a Marguerite Patten…

The 1940s House is being repeated
The first episode was yesterday, History channel 7pm - Sky 529, Virgin TV 234. Wonderful viewing. It brought memories of my childhood mostly spent with my gran. They had 3000 calories a day. Hi there! I am getting married next Friday - a relatively money-saving affair (of course!). We are having our "cake moment" after the evening food (BBQ) - a friend is going to bring her "choco-mobile", some kind of chocolate wagon with fondue, fruit etc. Anyway, we have been wondering what to do for the drinks reception in…

Egg Noodles
I don't normally cook with these, but tonight we are having lemon chicken and noodles just seem more appropriate than rice. I have bought dried noodles which I assume I just bung in a pan like I would with rice and pasta, but how much do I cook? We are quite gluttonous :rotfl: and I normally cook:- 80g of rice per person…

Dried milk
I had never used dried milk before this morning, didn't like the thought of it at all. This morning I had run out of fresh and found a forgotten tub of dried in the cupboard. Made up a pint and put some in my tea, tasted nearly the same, and my daughter had it on her cornflakes and in her coffee (not knowing it was…
