OS Daily Thur 17th July 08

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning. It looks to be a dry day although it's hardly hot down our way.#
Last day at work and then 3 days off. I have no idea what to do this weekend yet. I will get today over with first.
My Uncle has major surgery today, as they have to remove a tumor from his lung. I guess they are all pretty confident about it, so it should be OK. He's just not looking forward to 10 weeks of convalescing.
I have to get a couple of job applications delivered today for the OH. The school teacher jobs are scarce, so it's a struggle.
Well as I am off tomorrow, that means a nice supper with wine I think... No idea what to have, maybe BBQ something if the weather holds.
Cheers

Morning N9eav and all that follow.
Similar thing for me today - last day at work and then a long weekend, ostensibly to sort out my wardrobe and find things to sell (mainly books on Amazon, methinks) but there'll be some resting and OS type stuff happening too. I'm hoping work goes quick, but the three-hour commute will drag as it always does. The OH is out tonight so I can put my feet up, although I've been on about doing some gardening all week. I hope the weather holds
Anyway, got to dash to catch the train now. Take care, and may the day yield unexpected (good) surprises! *hugs all*0 -
Morning N9eav and all who follow,
Two more days of work........managed to get my to do list down quite a lot yesterday and had a great INSET session in the afternoon about team building.
Grey here today - I think we're going to get some rain.
The meal plan has gone out of the window - not used up what I was going to so that was good, and ended up having leftovers last night. So meals uneaten in stock!
N9eav, hope your uncles op is successful.
Will be back after shower with tea!
Hugs to all,

Decided to put on my new skirt yesterday. Barely had it on an hour and someone noticed that it had a tear in it. Question is where did it come from....was it already there I just didn't notice when I bought it? So now I've got a problem. OH thinks I should take it back to the shop, my head thinks that might be wrong and should try to repair it. A repair might be possible, but I'm not sure if it will hold.
So folks...do I:-
1. Go to the shop and be honest
2. Go to the shop and tell a little white lie to get a replacement
3. Take it to good old mum to see if I can get it repaired.
Answers on a postcard please....
Just need to work things out in my own mind and figured a dose of reason from you guys is the best way to work things out.
As for old style. Washing up done. No washing to do...at least yet. No shopping to do. Keep forgetting to do the hoovering in the evening...must do that tonight.
Hugs to those that need them.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Good morning all - looks a bit grey here but I can tell the sun is lurking up there somewhere! What a disappointing July it's been, though, hasn't it? I was really looking forward to long evenings sat outside until it gets dark but that just isn't happening this year.
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Mrs Mix, Candygirl and her Dad, Beth and her DBs, Anniestar and everyone else in need.
Beth - congratulations on your wonderful news yesterday!
Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:
Well, since DH got back from France I can hardly find any time to myself or time on here. It took him until yesterday to stop feeling so tired; he worked hard over there and also covered over 2000 miles and he says it is telling him that he's getting too old to do physical work! He is having a think about how he can change things. He'll always be self-employed (even though I don't think it's worth it these days with all the red tape and so on) but he just wants to make it easier. I suppose we're all looking at how to make life easier, aren't we? Anyway, I'm thinking just as hard as he is to try and come up with a way of changing things. His work has always eaten into our home life and I get fed up with that, too.
Enough of moaning! We both collected DGS from school yesterday then took him out to choose a comic and just had a nice mooch around a couple of shops then came back and spent a couple of hours playing games with him which was great because it took our minds off real life. DGS is great company and he has a fantastic sense of humour so we had a lovely afternoon with him.
I spoke to my Mum last night; she is finally getting over the horrid upset tummy she had last week. The thing is, she is barely seven and a half stone at the best of times and the weight just falls off her when she can't eat so she's worried she'll look 'scrawny' for DS2's wedding. She's tucking into lots of Chelsea buns (she swears by them to pick you up after illness!), Mars Bars and Complan! She'll stay with us for the wedding so I shall feed her up with Twink's Hobnobs and and make a load for her to take back home with her!
Well, I'd better go and get myself organised. I have some paperwork to do and I want to get some more wedding favours done - I'm glad I've kept them simple after all the fancy ideas I had but, even so, they are more time-consuming than I thought they'd be so I'm trying to set aside time every day to work on them. DH's job today is to open all the tiny packets (150 of them!) of Love Hearts and put them in a big airtight box so that will help a lot. As long as he doesn't keep eating them!
Yesterday, our milkman told us that they have a sort of shop at the dairy where they sell a small selection of things and we popped in yesteday and bought a huge box of broken luxury biscuits for £2 and a huge box of broken chocolate bars for £3 which will be a real saving when you think how expensive all those things are nowadays. That was definitely a good discovery and will help towards my latest drive to get the cost of food down even more!
Well, I've 'mioliered' a bit so I'd better go and have my shower.
I'll see you all later and hope everyone has a great day.

N9EAV - good luck to your uncle today.
Rchdapp - I'd have thought you'd have 'felt' the skirt catching on something if it tore while you were wearing it and, as you only had it on for an hour, it seems more likely that the tear was already there. I'd take it back and say you've just put it on and noticed the tear; you're not saying whether or not you caused it, just that you noticed it. Most shops these days are very good about changing things.

Morning all
BIL's life is still traumatic, his gay SIL had a fight with her partner & fell downstairs & cut her head open, during the punch up, the police spent 4 hours taking details from his DD about the abuse incident, his MIL keeps accosting family members claiming that it's all (a) a pack of lies. (b) the childs fault. (c) caused by him being overtaken by aliens. Confused? Good, so am I & I don't want to be confused alone. BIL's ex is in her element, she's alway wanted to live in Albert Square & now she feels like she is!
Work is going from bad to worse, people don't know whether to panic about the new head or OFSTED or both. An extrodinary governors meeting was held & the new head explained how he felt the governors were mislead by the previous head & how various figured have been massaged! My workload is increasing dramatically as the new head starts talking to staff about what he expects next term, all the work I've done is being binned & I have to start again, I'm disposing of half the worlds trees almost single handedly. September is going to be fun!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Beth - congrats on your lovely news, even sweeter knowing how hard it was conceiving :j Haven't had a chance to see my new granddaughter since we went to see her the day after she was born last week, hope to see her this weekend for a cuddle.
Hubby had to go into work for an hour or so this morning so as soon as he gets back we are going up to my mum's flat to pack up some more of her stuff. We have appt at 1.15 to register her death and then hopefully we can get to the funeral directors to arrange and get a time and date for her funeral. More phone calls to make which I have put on hold until I had the death certificate.
Haave a good day everyone0 -
Morning all,
Overcast here this morning, and we are due more rain here later  , still I have just made up the last lunch box untill September :j :j , I hate that job. Off to w**k today, busy at the moment so hopefully the day will fly past.
Oven fish and chips for tea tonight, which is easy, then sainsbugs delivery. DD needs to wrap her pressie for her teacher, who has been her form teacher for two years, and is now leaving for a year, she has adopted a little boy of two years old :T , I will be sorry to see her go, she has been a great teacher, but am very happy for her.
Hugs to smoky, pen pin, jayward, squigly aussie, and all in need.
N9eav, hope the op goes well
rchddap1 if you had only just put the skirt on, it is unlikely that you caused the tear, I would take it back xx
well better get on, have good days all xx0
