Hi all - just another quick one from me because DH is off work this week and seems to think that I don't have much to do, either. He's no good at occupying himself when he's not busy and I can't seem to get much done without being interrupted!

The weather has been quite cool for most of the day and we've had rain but the sun is shining now.

I've barely had time to read the thread because I can't seem to concentrate on anything at the moment, (I wonder why?!) but I managed to get him to mow the lawns and clip a bit of a hedge so that I could get some letters typed! I'm saving up the ironing and he can do that tomorrow to give me some more time. I have a lot of chasing up to do for DS2's wedding reception because they're both at work all day and can't find the time themselves. It's getting so close and the reception venue keep getting silly little things wrong - I seem to be forever on the phone to the so-called 'planner'. I think I'll be exhausted by the time it's all over!

Anyway, I'd better go and get something done; I'll try and pop in later.

    (((Hugs))) to all.

Happy birthday to Sammy Kaye - I read your posts on other threads so I feel as if I know you! Happy birthday also to Master Frizzell.

Twink - when I make pastry I always wear some of those disposable latex gloves that you can buy from the pound shops. I use them for kneading bread, too, and peeling kiwi fruit (the juice from them gives me the creeps!). They're also not that disposable because I wash them and use them a few times before binning them.

Martyn - great to see you posting; I wish you well in your new life wiv ya Julie but please keep in touch.

Well, I'm off to put the kettle on - what would we do without our cuppas?

    See you later.

Happy Birthday to all those celebrating!

I have spent some money today but think it was money well spent. I went on to Hotdeals (always a bad idea) and bought OH 2 new suits from M&S reduced to £48 for them both...£24 each which I think was a bargain! I think they still have some if people are interested:confused: ...also 2 of the Spiderman Trilogy boxsets for £5 inc delivery....putting away for Xmas and the WHOLE collection (series 1-5 I think) of Dawsons Creek mispriced at £10.99 inc delivery but not sure if this will be honoured. OH did need the suits so hope they fit and found a free delivery code for postage and if no good they can be sent back free and nothing lost.

I also bought an excellent SC cookbook with loads of recipes for starters, main, veggie and deserts and it was £3.59 inc postage.

Have wiped out the fridge and done a bit of clearing. OH has been back to bed.

    Hope everyone is well.

Had the celebratory prizegiving assembly for the kids today and the lovely lad who's been extra hlepful to me this term didn't even get a prize, so both he and I were v disappointed.Told my boss and she's sorting it   It seems like all the bad kids get stuff to encourage them to be good, and the good ones get ignored all the time:mad:
Anyway just been to Morrisons for food and petrol:eek: food was cheaper than Aldi, but petrol's sooo expensive now:cool:
DD's just been round for natter and a custard donut:p :p
HUGGLES to all who need them today, still haven't been able to visit Dad as I'm scared of passing anything on, but speak to him every day:o :o

PenPin - I do hope both you and DH are well enough for your holidays. Sending lots of 'get well' vibes to you! Well done on all your bargains - I'll have to check out the M&S suits at those prices.

Well, I've managed to clear my desk - DH has popped out to help someone fit a shower cubicle so I have had a 'window of opportunity' to get some work done!

The sun has gone in - it seems so reluctant to be summer, doesn't it? We even bought new sunloungers this year and have barely sat on them!

Candygirl - so glad you are feeling better and I do hope your kindly helper gets the reward he deserves; it's so wrong to reward the bad ones for, in effect, misbehaving and not to give credit where's it's obviously due to those who deserve it. It's good that you are 'on his side'.

Well, I actually feel as if I have achieved something now that all the filing has been done and letters written; it's only a simple achievement but has made me feel more positive now.

Anyway, I'd better go and start the dinner - DH wants a fry-up which is what I fancy, too, plus we have fresh fruit salad and icecream for pudding.

    See you all later.

    morning everyone

betheebee congratulations on your daughters pregnancy. I will keep those fingers crossed for her. will this be a first grandchild for you?

Redruby yes, the cake was wonderful. I'm due 24th Jan.

Happy Birthday SammieKaye and Master Fizzle

everyone sounds generally upbeat today which is great (especailly as the weather is being rubbish). Must be that almost holiday feeling we get at this time of year :D

I have some nice jobs to do today (test out the kenwood chef further) and some not so nice ones.

oh - quick question re: short crust pastry. I hate getting my hands in the mixture, can I rub the butter in gently using the food processor?????

Hi r.mac, No, not the first. We have a 14yr old Gd by our DD1 but this is DD2's first baby and I'm worried as her OH is a twin and his twin had twins last year
