Realistic weekly spend for family of 3 + pets
I am back again with more questions. Sorry In light of recent rises in food costs what would you say would be a realistic food budget for 2 Adults 1 toddler and 2 cats?? While I was working FT we were £50 per week which was a £40 weekly shop and £10 for top ups such as milk and sandwich meats for two. I am now on Maternity…

Hard dates
I usually buy Tesco own make dates just to eat out of the packet and they're really nice. Last time I got some though the Tesco ones were out of stock so I bought Whitworth's. They're terrible - hard and have plasticy, flaky skins that are hard to swallow. If I used them for baking do you think they will soften up or will…

organic/free range realistic spend?
When reading on here so much of the advice is tailored to buying 'value' range type foodstuffs. We're lucky in that we aren't counting every penny and I have the luxury of being able to indulge my principles of happy meat and organic vegetables. Even taking into consideration that I buy free range and/or organic where…

Oooh, me plums!
:hello: Good evening everyone. I am in need of some assistance please! I have a jar of Mirabelle plums which I acquired in France last June. They are in what I can only describe as a 'heavy syrup' - really thick, sweet & sticky. They need using, or chucking. I know which of the two I'm supposed to do. ;) Can I have some…

Serendipity...
Well then, during the recent cold spell I wrapped up with fleeces and avoided putting the heater on as much as possible, but... one evening I just had to. Only to find out that the switch had gone and I had to keep it pressed in order for power to flow to the heating elements. Ok, I thought, will need to get a new one for…

How do you all spend so little?
Hi all Well I'm so impressed every time that I see someone spend so little on their shopping. I have tried weekly shops at all the main outlets, monthly shops, local only shops etc etc but still I am spending approx £100 weekly on food for four. I exactly feel ashamed about this because I know Sammy Kaye can make this last…

Help making Danish Pastries
Hi, everyone, Can anyone please offer advice/recipe for making Danish Pastries. I would like to do the ones that are like a cathryn wheel, with a stick cinnamon topping, and drizzled with icing. I'm sure I should be able to make them cheaper than shop bought. I can imagine that they will be fiddly and time consuming, but…

Hand mincer (for meat, not hands!)
My parents have an old iron mincer, that screws to the edge of the table, pop meat in the chute at the top, crank the handle, and voila - mince meat! I think it had different sized holes / blades. Are these still available anywhere?? I'd rather buy meat I can check then mince it myself

Your best/worst old style idea
On the BBC have your say forum today the question is what do you think is the worlds worst idea? I thought we could adapt this to old style: So what has been your worst old style idea and your best old style idea? My worst has to be making home-made biscuits when we didn't normally buy them anyway. Me and my OH both gained…
