I usually buy Tesco own make dates just to eat out of the packet and they're really nice. Last time I got some though the Tesco ones were out of stock so I bought Whitworth's.
They're terrible - hard and have plasticy, flaky skins that are hard to swallow.
If I used them for baking do you think they will soften up or will I just be ruining a cake?

Some date loaf recipes call for the dates to be stewed with some water before they go into the cake mix. I think that would be fine. I like dates stewed in with rhubarb, they take that funny teeth feeling away!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Thanks, I didn't think of soaking them first.
I'll have a look for a recipe.0 -
Hi, there! My date loaf recipe calls for the dates to be soaked in tea with the addition of bicarbonate of soda. I use what's left in the pot, rather than making fresh
