Your best/worst old style idea

On the BBC have your say forum today the question is what do you think is the worlds worst idea?
I thought we could adapt this to old style:
So what has been your worst old style idea and your best old style idea?
My worst has to be making home-made biscuits when we didn't normally buy them anyway. Me and my OH both gained a ridiculous amount of weight.
My best was definitely making my own pasta sauces and freezing them. We always have a dinner option even if we're broke
