Hi all
I am curious to see how the advice you have found on the Old Style board has changed how you do things.
I will start with the best piece of advice I found on here
Write a menu for the meals for the week and then write your shopping list.
This has saved me so much time and money its invaluable. I don't waste food anymore and I never forget to get stuff out of the freezer for the evening becuase my menu is stuck to the fridge with a magnet.
This is the advice I give to working mums and dads in particular, but I'm sure it would work for anyone.

No sure where to start really.
Like you meal planning and shopping accordingly
The lovelies on here sorted out my BM recipe for me, not bought shop bread since (over 6 months ago)
All the support of the flylady thread - great bunch of people and keeps me motivated:T
All the baking recipes - DH and littles love them, unfortunately so do I and it shows on the scales:o
The general spirit and helpfull nature of this board. It seems nothing is impossible, no matter what someones budget there is always a wealth of information and people willing to offer suggestions.
All in all I think this whole board is the best thing I found of MSE!
Your stars all of you :T :T :T0 -
aside from the core ( meal planning, stardrops, using up storecupboard etc)
a couple of "fringe ones" have been using old spare socks for cleaning skirting boards and finding the pleasure of Comptons Gravy salt :rotfl::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Stardrops and meal planning has saved me loads of £££££££££££££££££

definately meal planning and shopping list writing!
i alctually think the most useful thing is 'being there' if i want to know how many egg whites to use in a lemon meringue pie at 1am there will still be someone able to tell me!
 to all of you - prior planning prevents poor performance!

Yup - meal planning for me too.
And the mysupermarket website - the substitutions it recommends have given me some great bargain.0 -
Reducing the amount of laundry powder I use. I now use a tablespoon of powder per load, unless something is really stained - then I use two! I also mix my expensive powder with cheap powder or washing soda. It has saved me a small fortune, I used to bung a cupful in every load :eek:Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Meal plans - noseying at what others are having to give inspiration
How to reduce wasteOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
So much of the 'little' things really... eating out the cupboards and freezer has really worked as I'm now much more aware of what's there is probably one of the major things.
Things I already had but didn't use are now more productive: slow cooker and breadmaker come to mind instantly.
Thinking about spending money BEFORE it's spent has enabled me to either not take goods off the shelf or put them back after the second thought! How many bottles of shampoo or shower gel does one household actually need at one tine??
Stuff like that - so a big thank you to all who have contributed to my 'new eyes'.
:j :j0 -
Lots of things for me - as others have said, the feeling of being with *like-minded* people, who understand that I'm not wierd for recycling, keeping hens, and making compost
Lots of great recipe ideas :T - not so good for my waistline, though.
My best thing has to be Freecycle. Got rid of loads of clutter with a clear conscience, and received lots of plants for my garden, a yogurt maker, slowcooker, and been on the TV :j
Thanks to all of you :A Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
