OS MSE ideas haven’t paid off for you?

Which OS MSE ideas haven’t paid off for you?

You read about it, you thought “Oh wow! I can do that!!”; you had good intentions, maybe even started out doing it but then realised it simply isn’t for you for whatever reason (time, convenience, low priority?)

Which OS MSE ideas have you decided are a no-no for you?
Which ideas, despite being moneysaving, have you decided are worth paying that bit extra for?

I’ll confess to:-
  • home done haircuts. Great when the boys were younger, but clippers simply don’t cut it anymore. It’s worth the extra for their budding self esteem (which is priceless).
  • Tried making my own bacon … simply not worth the trouble
  • Growing my own veggies is a hit and miss affair – the farm shop does it much, much better than I can/do. Still love my sprouting seeds though and the few herbs I grow
  • I don’t switch or play tag with my energy providers.
  • I enjoy having guilt free meals out – I know a lot of people on here frown on that expense, but it’s just so lovely to have someone else shop, cook, clean up that to me it’s well worth it!
  • I don’t use every coupon/voucher I receive
Who else will be brave enough to face the firing squad and admit which OS MSE things they *don’t* do? ;)

Breadmaker!!! which we bought and used for errr about 3 weeks, after hearing all the stories on here about how everyone cant live with out theirs....

Don't get me wrong it was lovely to wake up to a fresh loaf every morning BUT we just couldn't get the hang of cutting it into even slices, and the kids were crying when thye were taking their packed lunches in, containing *DOORSTEP* sandwiches..............:rotfl:

And we felt it was such a *treat* to buy a sliced loaf, that over time
(it's was relegated to the loft.....):T

The main one I can remember trying then aborting was sprouting beansprouts in a jar. far too much hassle and barely moneysaving at all.

Im enjoying growing my own veg until some rabid animal has come along and desroyed them all last night .Im thoroughly gutted. *sigh*
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

making my own washing powder - all that soap grating was too much effort. Mind you, I still buy Co op own brand non bio & mix it half & half with washing soda. A compromise but still OS & one I can live with.

Toilet cleaning - I stick to chemicals from Tesco!! Haven't got the time or stomach to get too close to the loo!!! I also use my tumble dryer in the summer (mainly because DD1 has really bad hayfever and its supposed to cut down on pollen). I have also cut down on making home made biscuits - loved making them and eating them but found I was spending much more money on ingredients, eating lots of them myself (don't tend to enjoy shop bought ones personally) and my scales started grumbling when I stepped on them!!!
However I do try to live in an OS/MSE way and feel that it has improved our life/savings/home etc......

Making my own sandwiches to take with me when I'm out all day. There's nothing left by 10 am  :(
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Actually I found that didn't work for me either. It just left it stained brown which looked really pleasant!!!!
I can't even find all the stuff to tell me how much I owe.

    I know!!!

But when I warned people that it wasn't to be used as a regular thing and it had been taken out of context ... ... for some reason, they just didn't listen to me :naughty:

It was only ever a tip to use up leftover cola/coke so that you didn't throw it away <--- that was the moneysaving bit, not wasting your cola/coke

Quasar ... :rotfl: no self control :p
