I love my new breadmaker, & the kids WILL get used to the bread, but Im having trouble with the slow cooker. I just prefer stews cooked in the oven ... the gravy seems thicker & tastier, a much nicer experience all round. It is good for rice pudding, though. Yum.
I do the Good Enough Club version of Flylady, which suits me much better.
I use Stardrops & microfibre cloths on most things, but still use Mr Muscle for the kitchen worktops, cos DH likes it.
Tried vinegar to soften the washing, but I much prefer fabric softener, as the clothes seem much softer, & also smell nice.
Ive always baked my own cakes, but I dont make my own pastry, cos its so much easier to get it out of a packet, & I dont use much anyway.A well balanced life is a glass in each hand0 -
Breadmaker!!! ... Don't get me wrong it was lovely to wake up to a fresh loaf every morning BUT we just couldn't get the hang of cutting it into even slices, and the kids were crying when thye were taking their packed lunches in, containing *DOORSTEP* sandwiches..............:rotfl:
I ended up buying a knife from Lakeland that has an adjustable guide so you can slice bread or veg evenly to the desired thickness. I'd be useless freehand (but also, if it's white bread, it needs to be Warburtons ... )If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0 -
Kenwood slicer (or similar cookworks do a cheap one) is the way forward :rotfl: Before that I was only capable of making door wedges.
One day I might be more organised...........

Ok....deep breath......
I don't like microfibre cloths:eek:. They smell & never seem to get really clean unless you put them in such a hot wash they disintergrate!:p
I don't like Stardrops:eek:. It's ineffective.:eek::eek:
I buy ready made puff pastry & make shortcrust from a bag of pastry mix.
I have never tried flylady, but that's becuase I am perfectly happy with my existing cleaning routine of doing certain jobs on certain days:p.
If out I sometimes eat in McDonalds, but thats because in our tiny highstreet there isn't a burger king:o (or any other choice...really!)
I use disposable nappies:o I am really very ashamed of this one but I honestly tried using washables for over a year and felt like I was a total OS failure when I gave up with them. But I am about to car boot the abandoned washables this weekend so at least have not abandoned all my principals!;)
Sometimes I buy ready made pizzas, I'm trying to get in the habit of making them myself but I make almost everything else from scratch & these are my easy "night off!" meal:o
I now feel like I don't belong on this board any more.....quick....
I do use my SC, BM & YM frequently:D
I meal plan & make shopping lists:D
I inventory my freezer & cupboards to use stuff up:D
I am a SAHM:D
I don't own a tumble dryer:D
I love vinegar in my washing:D
I learnt to knit last year & and am currently knitting Xmas presents from free wool:D
I bake my own cakes & biscuits:D
After having Spud I developed an intolerence to tampons & my mooncup so I DO use washable sanitary towels:D (And they are a damn sight less hassle than the washable nappies!)
Oh, I feel better for re-affirming my commitment to Old Style....:DPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

Oh, please tell me the secret! Or is there one? I am going to do my own pudding this year, and dread using my steamer for that!
I used to steam, but now I microwave and with no noticable difference! It takes two or three minutes.;)0 -
Please tell me what a 'mooncup' is.0

Now a few other people have come out about Stardrops - it's ok but I've stopped using it as it was slated in the Good Consumer Guide. Also I found it streaked my windows.
Microfibre cloths aren't as good IMO as a standard dishcloth for dusting (dampened)
I use standard toilet cleaner and the disposable Duck toilet cleaners
and my cleaning cupboard has both Domestos and Jeyes fluid!!!!!!!!
And the slow cooker has been relegated back to the garage - again I prefer the oven and a casserole dish. Oh and I use the TD in the winter as it gets very steamy with the clothes on the radiator.
Thanks, Queenie, I feel so much better.
Having said that - I use the BM a lot and cook virtually everything from scratch as I'm lactose intolerant and allergic to MSG and ds1 has also just found out he's lactose intolerant. You would not believe how much stuff they stick lactose into.........“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I'm soya intolerant so I do understand your pain. Soya is in EVERYTHING, which is my main reason for wanting to cook properly from scratch.0 -

Well, as long as you aren't eating or anything....
It's a small re-usable rubber "cup" that you insert as an alternative to a tampon, you rinse and reuse it.
Google search if you want to know more.
Sorry but I am not convinced enough to try that one!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
