    Hi bomber,

Is the gold tarnished or just needs a clean? If it's tarnished place some scrunched up tin foil in a dish. Then add some soda crystals and pour on hot water. Immerse the item so that it comes into contact with the tin foil. Leave it for a few minutes, then rinse, dry and polish. I don't know why it works but it does.

If it's not tarnished but just needs a good clean, put some stardrops or washing up liquid into a dish, add warm water and leave the item overnight. In the morning give it a good brush with an old toothbrush and it'll be sparkling.

If it's tarnished it isn't gold ;) Gold is chosen for wedding rings and the like as it is almost completely unreactive.

If it's a bit grubby, give it a polish with a soft cloth. Rings with jewels set in can be carefully cleaned with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water.
