Mooli mooli
Hi. Whilst picking up some xmas bits in Lidl yesterday, I saw that they had moolis on offer in the veg section, so bought one as it looked great value. Problem is... i can't find any recipes that use it, apart from indian parathas. I was hoping for some other alternatives. Can they go in a stew..or a soup?? or roasted??…

I wanna thank you present for Muslim friend
A new friend of mine who is a Muslim, has been really kind to me lately and I would like to give her something as a thank you present but have no ideas what to get her. I know she loves sweet foods and wondered if there is something I could make, maybe a cake or some sweets but another friend said she thinks that Muslims…

Have you noticed how MSing sneaks up on you
Hi MSers Have you noticed how moneysaving sneaks up on you? I was thinking the other day how things become second nature. I now automatically turn off lights when I leave a room, I turn the boiler off when its not needed (rather than leaving it to the timer, all those extra half an hours add expense to the gas bill) and…

Wine rack but don't drink
Hi, I know you lot are inventive, so I'm hoping someone can come up with an idea for the wine rack in my kitchen. We've recently moved and the kitchen has an inbuilt wine rack similar to this (but obviously not as grand - previous owner was a chef) Up to now it has been stuffed with old plastic bags but I want to try and…

Cheapest meals for the slow cooker
Ok well I've looked at the slow cooker index, the slow cooker recipe thread (well about 55 pages of it anyway ) My slow cooker should be arriving on Friday and I have never used one before ;) My plan is to do casseroles etc so that food is ready when I get home from work - so about 10 hours cooking time. I have…

For those of you who cook for / with children
I have just found this site (posted on Christmas forum too for those of you with a sense of deja-vu) Has some lovely bits for baking with your children and for them - i.e. cake tins. I thought the prices seemed reasonable too considering some are unusual novelty items. Off to have a thorough mooch now and buy lots of bits…

Silly Pumpkin question....
I know this will sound really silly but when a recipe calls for a certain amount of pumpkin - which bit exactly is it? If I were going to make a jack-o-lantern I would slice off the top and scoop out all the insides with the seeds in - is this the bit I should use OR is it the actual outer skin of pumpkin (and if so do I…

Hairspray. (merged threads)
Hi All, I use hairspray on my hair but after watching the Sarah Beeney programme the other night I'm not so keen now (although will use up what I have, just won't buy any more). Anyway was thinking about the old-fashioned sugar water people used to use, does anyone know the proportions and how to make it? Also would it be…

Preparation and storage of pulses
Hi all I'm planning on buying dry pulses now as opposed to tinned (cheaper!), if I were to soak and prepare a batch of them, how long would they be able to be stored for? I've tried googling it, but my googling skills have let me down again.

Durabrand Slow Cooker - HELP!
Bought one of these yesterday, reduced to £7, as we like curries and casseroles, and the meat tends to burn to the bottom of the pan on the gas ring. However, the instructions are the soul of brevity - no mention of what each of the power levels are. Can someone who has used one of these please tell me what you use LOW,…

What can i use to grind coffee beans other than a grinder?
The husband went out to buy ground coffee & despite picking a bag with coffee BEANS written on the front it he didn't notice until he opened the packet that they weren't ground! We don't have a coffee bean grinder & was just wondering if a blender or food processer would work? Thanks
