Hi MSers
Have you noticed how moneysaving sneaks up on you?
I was thinking the other day how things become second nature. I now automatically turn off lights when I leave a room, I turn the boiler off when its not needed (rather than leaving it to the timer, all those extra half an hours add expense to the gas bill) and I've only bought one piece of clothing in the last 6 months (a blouse to wear for a 50th BD party) I haven't put my summer clothes away because you can wear layers using vests, T shirts and blouses rather than buying new. The central heating is also staying off as long as possible.
If I think about it I'm sure there are a lot more but its amazing how fast it just becomes a part of normal life.
Bye for now

Would completely agree! Second nature to use half the washing powder & dishwasher tablets, to not use the tumble drier except in emergencies, to plan the meals for the week and to stick to the shopping list. Like you, no central heating yet, but warmer layers if needed.Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
it has become a sort of competition in our house to see how late in the season we can leave it before switching the central heating back on again. It's surprising how much extra warmth a couple of extra layers of clothing and a really thick fleece can generate. But one needs to keep moving around to avoid the risk of hypothermia. A good trick is to get up and do some exercises when the evening TV adverts come on - and it burns off a few extra calories as well.0

Lol - yeah i have noticed this too - i never leave lights on if ive left the room , i started doing a walk round routine of the house before bedtime so everything is switched off at the plug (bar the FF obviously!). Fill the sink once fo rwashign up, half the washing powder, use cheap fairy liquid as a cleaner etc as it is jsut as good for cleaning baths and sinks etc.Time to find me again0

I have to say that the other day me and OH watched 2 environmental films (11th hr and inconvenient truth) and it's spurred us on even more to do all the energy saving/switching off lights etc (we weren't too bad to start with). And I think we're pretty lucky with the heating as we're in a terrace and I think our neighbours are keeping the temperature up!
OH is really good with all this stuff but not so much with food. Before we moved in together he was always buying what he already had (IYKWIM!). letting stuff go off, throwing quite a bit away. I found it a bit strange since he would tell me off if I left a light on or a charger plugged in. But I guess he'a just not into cooking and couldn't get it all organised.
Anyway - now everything is switched off/unplugged and the kitchen has been totally OS-ed!!

My OH has kinda guilted me into making a couple of changes. I was always okay at switching lights/plugs etc off but now he's got me putting on cardis & thick socks in the evenings rather than putting the heating on (plus it means I get to cuddle up to him for extra warmth) and quite often if the oven is on for just one thing I'll make up a cake or something to stick in so I'm not wasting the heat.
It's all those little things which add up and make a difference.0 -
I'm not too bad - switch off lights etc when I leave a room, but OH goes round leaving them all on. When we go to bed, he's got the bathroom light, the landing light and the bedroom light all on - completely unnecessary! I go round turning them off which probably drives him just as mad! :rotfl:0

I have found that I am more OS now but am having great difficulty converting OH, he wants the heating put on (he only wears a t-shirt and refuses to wear sweaters), he fills the kettle to the brim every time he boils it, leaves lights on all over the house, rinses plates etc and then leaves them in sink for me to put in dishwasher (no matter how many times I have proved to him he doesn't need to do this).
He then had the cheek to moan at me last night because I was bidding on a certain TV shopping channel for christmas presents and trying to find auctions that had the lower start prices to get better deals. I am apparently spending too much money this month!!!0 -
Do you know Mr Frog is exactly the same! When I told him to stop over filling the kettle, turn lights off, and put on more clothes rather than put the heating on , he said:
" I think you're going well over the top with this moneysaving lark!"
