Ikea kitchen hell - review
I can not even start to discribe the hellish experience I have had with my ikea kitchen. So i thought I would share with the internet to give everyone a fair warning what they are letting themselves in for. I ordered an IKEA kitchen from your Croydon store on 12 June 2014. During the ordering stage I was informed that 4 of…

Unopened 8 year old plastic container Dulux Once Gloss Paint
I bought a 600mil "tin" of Dulux Once Pure Brilliant White Gloss paint in 2006 and never used it. The "tin" is plastic and not metal. It has never been opened. Is it likely to still be in good condition? We moved house in 2011, involving 4 months in a rental house in winter, and I don't know if it has been stored in very…

Halogen hob not working properly
I hope someone may be able to advise me on the best course of action. Ever since we moved into our new home a couple of years ago there has been a problem with a couple of rings on our cooker hob. The two smaller rings seem to work fine, we can control the heat with no problem at all however with both of the two larger…

Drying out new shiplap fencing?
Just had some bog standard shiplap panels delivered, and they are quite wet. I want to paint them with cuprinol ducksback. Should I be looking at laying them flat and weighted down somewhere until they have dried out before painting so I don't seal in the moisture and they end up warping?

PartyWall Act - Is that applicable for us?
Hi We live on a semi-detached and my neighbor is building an extension at the back of his house (3.5m) , the conservatory he is building stands behind the fence between us. We are in good terms with neighbour and he already showed us the plan to make sure we are happy with it. I also had a notice from the council few weeks…

upvc door lock replacement - split spindle?
Hi all, Me and my girlfriend have just bought our first house (well I suppose the bank owns it really, but..), and the previous owners seemed to have had LOADS of keys cut for the front door. They gave us a few when we moved in, locked up with a key they didn't leave, and then said "we've got more - we'll find them and…

SatinWood. Which best to replace Gloss
Hi folks. Bit of advice needed. I am getting fed up of the white gloss in our house going yellow. Thinking about changing over to Satinwood this time round. Two questions: which is the best brand to use, both for ease of applying and staying white. Also how difficult is it to work with and are there any special…

Dusting concrete garage floor
I'm after a low cost way of preventing dusting from th concrete floor, I had a look at the paints but it means being without the garage for days while the paint cures. The rubber tiles appear expensive. One place suggested gel back carpet  Any suggestions?

Nuaire Flatmaster 2000
About 4 or 5 years ago now I installed a Nuaire Drimaster Heat and the results have been, and still are fantastic. However, I had also posted on the forum regarding the unfortunate side effect whereby the air in the loft quite frankly stinks ! We put up with it because the improvement in the condensation problem was so…

Is it a bit silly to replace Kitchen Unit doors (oak) with b and q type manufactored?
Hi, Kitchen has been in house since I came here and some of the unit doors do need touching up in places as well as that under the worktop at underside the wood is a little chipped away. Something like this only because of its age obviously shabbier. http://www.vangviet.com/comfortable-oak-kitchen-cabinets/ My partener has…

What to do with a "potentially" valuable sofa.
Hi, We bought a new suite a while back and dumped the existing one (which was my mother-in-law's) in a spare room until I had the time to take it to the dump. However, my other half is insisting that it is quite valuable - bit of an Italian antique apparently. All the material is tatty and the wood is scratched in places…

HETAS : what do they actually do?
Hello. Does anyone have any experience of submitting complaints to HETAS about bad, or even downright dangerous workmanship? What happened? Did HETAS actually do anything, or do they just tell everyone to go and read up on building regulations (not kidding... that seems to be their standard operating procedure...) and then…

Buying screwdrivers
I'm about to be doing some flat pack assembly and think it's about time I get a decent set of screwdrivers. I've a mixture of flat and cross head, but am a bit fed up with worn tools, especially the cross head drivers. I (probably like many other folk) have been guilty of using whatever 'cross head' driver i could find for…

Any recommendations for a large sofa bed?
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help with a recommendation for a large sofa bed - preferably with a 4ft 6' width mattress? I've been looking around with a budget of £750 max and I can't seem to find one wide enough. Any recommendations? Would prefer loose covers but the bed size is more important. Cheers MM

Oddjob person
I want someone to do a load of odd jobs in our house. Things like polyfilla cracks, fix masonry, perhaps even stick up a new garden gate. I know there are sites where people are rated or bid for jobs, but I also know loads are fixed - i.e. only take good ratings. Where can I find a site that takes both kind of ratings so I…

Since then, the hot water heats up nice & hot but the radiator doesn't get hot at all. We've bled the rad, no air in it. the plumber can't get back for a while,…
