Oh no have a leak!

Options
Just found a leak in the cupboard behind our shower. Any sort of spray or sealant I can buy to stop this dripping?

Thanks,

No, you need to tighten or repair the joint for a permanent repair.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Push fit connector, just go down your local DIY shed and buy a new one.

    Have you tried tightening it?
  • I'm not entirely sure where the leak is coming from - is it from one of the joints ? If so, don't try and spray any gunge on it, those are just plastic fittings. Unscrew the fitting ( put an old towel underneath to catch any drips, though there shouldn't be much ). Clean everything thoroughly. Check the condition of the rubber gasket. If it's damaged, buy a new one for a few pennies from a plumbers merchant or any of the DIY sheds. Screw the fitting back together. Don't overdo it, it only needs to be hand tight. Job done. Getting the pipes and threads clean is the main thing, a bit of grit or muck can stop the gasket sealing properly. Over tightening is another common cause.

The upshot is, it's a very simple fix that should cost you either nothing ( if it just needs cleaning ) or very little ( if you need a new rubber gasket ).
  • PS...... AND DON'T FORGET TO TURN THE WATER OFF FIRST :rotfl:
  • Thanks all, it's pretty hard to unscrew. But will try again.
  • Get a tea towel to aid friction. If the joint is wet your hands will be slippery.

just had similar problem - turn water off, undo, clean and get some plumber sealing tape, wrap a little around pipe and reattach joints. the tape gives a better grip and seal.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • Plumber sealing tap = PTFE tape :)

It may not be a screw fit joint. It may be push fit. You might need a demounting tool to disassemble the joint.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Thanks all just tightened it and that seems to have done the trick. I'm absolutely useless with plumbing but when I attempted to unscrew I found it was loose. So, for now that's done the trick but I will bear in mind the advice - unscrew, clean, ptfe tape!
