What to do with a "potentially" valuable sofa.

Hi,
We bought a new suite a while back and dumped the existing one (which was my mother-in-law's) in a spare room until I had the time to take it to the dump.
However, my other half is insisting that it is quite valuable - bit of an Italian antique apparently.
All the material is tatty and the wood is scratched in places and I cannot really see that it would be worth much in that condition but then it might be salvagable to the right person.
My mother-in-law has since passed away so we cannot ask her anything about it. Any advice would be grateful on what to do.
1. Is there any way I might check the value?
2. Are items like these only valuable if in good nick anyway?
Thanks very much.

Drew Pritchard from Salvage Hunters is the one to contact. He has a thing about armchairs sofas etc. He may be able to tell you if it has a value
Don't throw anything away as there is always someone who may be into recycling furniture who is just waiting for what you have.
Do check it out to see if there is a value to you though
Good Luck
Whoops for to add this www.drewpritchard.co.uk0 -
can you post a picture of it so we can see?0

seriously! Drew Pritchard? why not tell them to contact the Antiques Roadshow or some other sh!te TV programme.
Take a couple of photos and go down to a local antique shop (not a bric a brac shop though) tell them your story and ask them if they would be interested in valuing it. Otherwise contact an auction house who does antique sales and stick in for sale there.0
