Unopened 8 year old plastic container Dulux Once Gloss Paint

I bought a 600mil "tin" of Dulux Once Pure Brilliant White Gloss paint in 2006 and never used it.

The "tin" is plastic and not metal. It has never been opened.

Is it likely to still be in good condition? We moved house in 2011, involving 4 months in a rental house in winter, and I don't know if it has been stored in very cold or very hot conditions during that time.

I have no use for it myself so I am considering donating it to a charity shop along with some other stuff we have no use for.

However I don't want to donate it if it is likely to have deteriorated significantly.

Conversely I don't want to discard decent paint to landfill if avoidable.

  • If it's never been opened then it's more than likely going to be fine. Unopened paint will usually last for years, it's only once it's been opened that it starts going off.

Literally two weeks ago I opened a tin (metal - little rusty lol) of 10 year old paint that I had in the garage. It was fine, but needed a little more stirring than new paint.

Me too, although 9 years old and was also a discontinued colour so it must have been in the shop for a couple of years as well. My tin was rather rusty as stored in a shed. A good stir with a wooden spoon as it was very thick at the bottom but no other issues.
  • I tried using Dulux Once a few years ago, it's awful stuff to try and get a decent finish, it's like spreading porridge on a wall.

I suspect it is called Once as most people say "never again" after trying it.
