HETAS : what do they actually do?

Options
Hello. Does anyone have any experience of submitting complaints to HETAS about bad, or even downright dangerous workmanship? What happened? Did HETAS actually do anything, or do they just tell everyone to go and read up on building regulations (not kidding... that seems to be their standard operating procedure...) and then go to Trading Standards or small claims court?

Thanks in advance.

I genuinely haven't read one positive comment. This would probably get a better response in the Solid Fuel forum but it seems that in the case of ANY issue they bury their heads in the sand!

Sounds just like CIGA dealing complaints about cavity wall insulation. Trade bodies should be treated with an enormous pinch of salt.

I have complained to them on several occasions about poor and some downright dangerous installations I have seen done by registered HETAS installers, never heard anything back from one complaint yet.

One reason why I wont join them if I am honest - another company that wants your brass for a few letters after your trading name !

  • Thanks everyone. I don't think I've found anything positive, either, but there's plenty to suggest that even with dangerous installations (leaking smoke, complete bodges and so on), they just don't do anything. The installers get to continue working with the HETAS branding, and it all seems to be a complete scam.

You are probably better off getting a copy of the relevant building regs and doing it yourself... properly.
